What did you learn in your last loss?

Be aware if it's a tournament where a lady doesn't have to win a full set of games against a man.

The last loss I suffered I was playing an 8 ball tournament that was race to three, unless a lady was playing a man, where she would only have to win 2 and he would have to win 3. I did not know this or ask, and ended up losing 2-2. Was not happy, but was on me for not knowing the format.

seems like the director should have told you this. Why would you know unless somebody informed you? Why would anybody assume there would be an automatic handicap like this?

I understand where you're coming from. I do kinda wish I had been told, but I also feel as a participant it's my job to ask for clarification on rules and see if anything is out of place (this tournament was also not a most official one, so it would behoove me to be more informed).

I came back the next week, beat two ladies 3-0 and two guys 3-1, then won the finals 3-2. So I kinda got even lol

Shoot the second half of the set like you did the first half of the set. Don't let the thought slip into your mind that "I've won this set" until you've won the set. Same for sets, sessions, games, etc.

It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

1) I play up to good shooters and down to bad ones.
2) I need to learn to concentrate and do my PSR before every shot.

I learned ....dont scratch on the break

Played 9 ball last night vs a 4. As I am about to break my scorekeeper tells me i only need I ball.. My opponent needs 10 points.

Since I had been breaking dry every rack I decided to give a lil more ooomph to my break ..after all the balls stopped moving I noticed I made one on the break.....the cue ball..

My opponent gets bih and runs the entire rack winning 31-37..he is a 4 and I am a 5

This isn't really something new, but I am often reminded that almost running out in 8-ball is a sure way to make your opponent look good. Lots of players that aren't much of a threat to run out from the break can easily get out on a wide open table or make your life miserable with the vast array of defensive options available.

Knowing that doesn't stop me from playing aggressively on a league night, but an occasional loss is enough to convince me to dial it back a notch and play more strategically in tournament situations.

That is a silly rule, I know several women I run into regularly that can beat me even, who the hell automatically handicaps a woman's race just because she is a woman? I'd love for someone to give kids an automatic handicap also and watch some 15-16 year olds I know run 2-3 racks on them.

Don't miss.

Honestly, I am not sure I learn anything but they sure do stick in my mind longer.

It cost me $40.
In a weak moment i played a one pocket specialist.
I learned I still hated the game.
I learned I still suck at one pocket.
I learned not to do that again.

I don't need to rush, I should take my time and go through my routine before I shoot.

I tend to just rush shots and it's really hurting my game

I didn't learn anything, but I remembered something. If I am down over a shot and still thinking with words, that is bad. Get up, relax and reset. If I am down for a shot and can picture the desired out come without an internal monologue, I am shooting much better. I haven't been playing much due to injury and it is affecting my play.

I've listened to many a player try to explain what should be going through your head when they're down on a shot.

Yours is the most deep, succinct, and concise answer to that question I've ever encountered. Almost on a Zen level.

Greenie coming your way, Dave.

Over-stroking the cue ball is the sure fire method for rattling object balls in the jaws of the pocket.....been there ....done that.

I could write a book based on my experience with this issue...

It happens damn near every straight pool break shot I have.
