Small timers heading for the bigtime?

When speaking to a pro player recently I asked him his opinion of the talent on the local tours, and mentioned a few players, and he said they were all "Small timers".

There are a lot of talented players on the various regional tours with distinctive styles and a lot of talent. Two such players that I have admired are Jarred Clowery and Mike Davis. Does anyone have any opinions on whether these or maybe some of the other lesser-known tour players are heading towards greatness? Who do you think will make themselvers known on an internatinal level?

Who was the pro player that you spoke with? Just curious. I have watched a few local guys from my area play in the casino tourneys and have followed them on AZbilliards during a few bigger tourneys with pros and they have done quite well. Rich Smeigel( not positive on the spelling of his last name) was most impressive and to me he looks like he might get somewhere.He beat Johnny Archer, Dave Matlock I beleive a and a few other pros in last years music city open.

Two names that come to me are Glenn Atwell and Amar Kang. Possibly Jonathon Hennessy. Possibly means I have my doubts. All 3 are awesome players.

Amar Kang is not only very good, but he also appears to be committed to the endeavor of becoming one of the best in the game. From what I understand, he plays all the time in very competetive games. Many young players with a lot of natural talent drift away from the game to pursue more lucrative opportunities elsewhere before they are able to make it in pool. It would appear that Amar has been able to make some money playing this game and, hopefully, will stay with it. There are a lot of very good players out there, but unfortunately, it's a tough game to make a living at, especially when you're just starting out. Maybe one of these days pool will provide the prize money that other sports enjoy and the young players will stick with the game.

Yeah, I think you can include Eric Durbin in that group. Anybody that is capable of throwing down an 11-pack gambling definitely has the talent to win. Tournaments are different than gambling however, so you never know. He can plays real good at any rate.

Amar Kang IMO is probably one of the best up and coming players. Gabe Owens is another.

I recently had the (mis) fortune of playing Jarrod Clowery in a tournament. It is a little weekly tourney in Quincy. He goes to 7, I go to 5. On the first rack, he missed an easy two ball. I ran out to the 9, an easy shot, and MISSED!!! I returned to the table 1 time with a difficult shot. He won 7-0. He plays very strong, though I don't think he was really trying. 1st place was only like $80. He certainly has teh personality down pat, though. Like a statue the whole time. He didn't say two words to me. Oh wait, after the match I said "well you sure let gave me a lot of time to sit and think about that first nine". He replied "Yeah. That was an easy shot-you gotta make those."

I will watch him play most likely in the Joss finals in two weeks. That should be an excellent tournament.
