Eric, my best feeling wins are at the race track (horses) , boy that feeling i get when my horse finishes 1st (is the best high ) and then i have to wait for the race to be offical to collect my money, yeah thats the best for me!

Even i know betting the horses is a losing game, but man when your horse does win what a feeling!

The toughest game outthere to win at is the horses, i compare it to the poker machines ,Atlease i was smart enough not to let myself play those machines, but the horses well thats another story!

I used to love to go to the track even though i never won a quarter. I like to play another losing game, Roulette. Im good for about 3 spins and i either score or i walk, its a terrible game but if you get lucky and you got any kind of balls at all, you can run a toothpick into a lumber yard faster than any other game in the casino.
I do know what youre saying though, i have seen some of the funniest things in the world at the track, you cant help but laugh looking at some of the screwballs walking around, lol.

That old movie California Split had some funny racetrack scenes in it, great movie.

Poker players are ALWAYS pissed off when they lose, lol. Its a toss up as to to who is the bigger crybabys, poker players or 21 players.
Its always a big play by play analysis when a poker player loses a pot, its never just "Oh well, lets put em in the air and try again". You got to hear everything in nauseating detail. You lost, its done, get over it.

To me, crap shooters are the best, they dont say much except mumble a few curses and thats it, next shooter, lets go.

I love watching the WSOP when a player goes off on the guy that beat him because he wasn't suppose to stay in with the cards that were showing and won.

How dare you beat me with that hand? Now that's entertainment!

Do you enjoy winning at pool more than poker or poker more than pool?

Or,

It dont matter ship it!!!!!!!!

The reason for asking is I just wondered because you might have put more effort into one of the 2 games thus the payoff is sweeter in one than the other.

Speaking for myself, I never play poker so I dont know. Winning pool is satisfying but I have never been great at pool. Winning in pool is cool for me when i beat someone who is better than me. Robbing a game is a grind and not satisfying but when I had to I did.

What I was great at was telemarketing and the $$$ I made was fun, I made more in the credit biz but it was a grind and not satisfying.

I know it all spends the same, there is just something about making money certain ways that are more fun than others-for me. I just wondered if it works like that for you as a pool player?

Of course i aint made shit since may 08(Gods honest truth), so i kinda forgot....:(

take care

Eric:)

To be honest the only reason I started playing pool again was because of black friday. Yes poker was a grind at times but it was always extremely easy to find a game. Nobody complains about weight or anything. Either they decide to put more money in play or they don't. I feel like there were less headaches involved with poker than pool. I could play for more playing poker than pool. I play $10-$20 sets typically. Playing poker I would play games for $100 that lasted 10 minutes tops. So in that sense pool is more of a grind for less money to win. Don't get me wrong. I love playing pool and play fairly well but I don't enjoy playing it as much for money. The opposite is true as I have no interest in playing poker if it is just for fun.

I won't get into a poker is just luck argument at this moment, but yes there is a lot of variance in poker. Especially no limit holdem. However, for many, beating that variance is what can make winning that much more special. Being a good poker player isn't determined in a single session, or tourney. Which is why it gets hard to judge who is "good."

Not really. Back in the online days, there were sites where you could look up users and see how much they've won or lost. If they had a good win rate over a decent sample size at a particular limit (say 100NL, 100k+ hands), then it's safe to assume they were good.

It's a little different with live poker, especially tournament play. It's not harder to find out who's good, it just takes more time.

I used to love to go to the track even though i never won a quarter. ...

Reminds me of the time I went to the track and learned it was not for me.

I made a bet based on the jockey. Bet $5 to place and he did. I went to the window and got back $5.25. I won a quarter. That was the last hoese I ever fed.

On topic though...

Obviously, 99.789564% of the people are going to prefer to win 10k at cards over 1k at pool. I bet the same people would prefer to win 10k at pool vs. 1k in cards. Unless you make the $ equal, it is a idiot's comparison.

I prefer to win money at pool vs. betting on things I have no influence on. There is something extra satisfying to know your victory is the result of your effort.

Some people step up and take the prize and it is that execution I enjoy.

They were showing poker last night at the pool hall, some dude sucked out Phil Ivey and he didn't cash.
I dunno which is more satisfying to win but I bet poker leads to more frustrating losses.
I'd rather lose to skill than random luck. At least you have something to work on if you just got outplayed.

To me, Richie, there is no comparison-horses vs 1-armed bandits.
The slots pay off EXACTLY as the casinos want them to.

The betting public sets the odds at a race track....so some times you
can find an overlay...the payoff might be,say, 8 to 1 on your money....
....the actual odds of the horse winning, in your estimation, might be
2 to 1....therefore you're getting an overlay.

The hard part of playing horses is NOT gambling in between good bets.

I have never won the type money in pool as I have in poker. Therefore, I must say poker is my favorite solely based on the cash.

Obviously u guys don't know the difference!!! Pool takes talent to win at!!! In poker anybody can win!!! Why the **** do u think so many people play poker!!! It takes skill and dedication to succeed in the pool world!!! Look at all the WSP winners who r rookies!!

Definitely NOT this...It's players like this who join a casino poker room or online table that will make the regs drool.

Short term, anybody can luckbox in poker (even pool to an extent). To win repeatedly long term you gots to have some skillz.

For me they are different rushes. The pool room has people potentially watching your every shot. There is great satisfaction for winning at tournament or beating a player that was better than you...maybe even someone they said you had no shot at beating.

Poker has more of a $ rush whether it is live or online. You are playing for most likely higher prize pools than in pool (hands down most likely). Nothing like shoving all in for $1k to get your heart just thumping. It's a rush...just in a different way.

lol not the poker room in Des Moines. 200nl in the casino is easier than 25nl online hands down and thats a fact!

AZ billiards is amazing. There are ZERO poker losers on here. Every single person who plays cash poker is winner, and most are winners every time they sit down for at least $10k

LOL. Most people who are even decent pool players make/made money playing poker. I believe it has to do with above average intelligence and analytical skills.

FWIW i have lost 3k in a day before and my biggest winning day was about the same. The thing is you have more winning days than losing days and try to keep the losing days small and infrequent if possible.

Tommy, not sure if that was directed at me or not, but I never mentioned $ or said I was killing the game at the casino. I just said that it is easier than 25nl online which I stand by 100%.

It's weird, even though I never played higher than 100NL online, I ended up being really desensitized to the money and learned how to leave all emotions out of my decisions. For some reason, I haven't been able to reach that in pool yet. I could be playing $10 sets with a grand in my pocket, and still get a little nervous.

As for the bolded, that's partially true. The problem is that a lot of poker players don't realize that their losing ways aren't really attributed to luck. Just like pool, strong fundamentals are key to playing poker well.
