2015 US Bar Table Championships 10-Ball Matches Released on YouTube!

CueSports International, Henderson, Nevada (June 5, 2015) – CSI is pleased to announce that the 2015 US Bar Table Championships 10-Ball Division matches have been released on the CSI YouTube channel. Twelve (12) matches featuring some of the best players in the world including Shane Van Boening, Jayson Shaw, Skyler Woodward, Justin Bergman, Rodrigo Geronimo, Jeffrey Ignacio, and more can be viewed in their entirety absolutely free!

The 2015 US Bar Table Championships were held February 16-22, 2015 at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, NV. The matches were recorded in “The Kamui Arena” with high definition equipment and full-time commentary by Ken Shuman and other special guests.

I am actually curious, what defines a table as a "Bar table" today?
Years ago the top players that played on bar tables were masters of bad conditions, the big cueball, pockets that spit out balls and so on. Players like Ronny Sypher and Joe Salazar could play world champions on those tables, it was their specialty.

What advantage does a bar table specialst have today if any? That table, at least from the video, just looks like a regular table.

Different game. Different shots. Different position routes. Different break. Really bar box pool is quite different from big table pool...especially for 8 ball. It isn't so much the crappy conditions. It is the shot selection above all else.

I love them both.

But what is it about the tables in those videos that defines them as bar tables, table size? Should any tournament played on anything other then a 9 foot table be billed as a bar table tournament? Does the table need to have a coin slot to qualify as a bar table?

Years ago when you said "Bar table" everyone knew exactly what you were talking about. First and foremost was the cue ball. It had to be different size or weight so they would return. The rubber on the rails was also different as balls did not seem to bank the same or predictable , some had a dead feel and sound.

if I understand your question correctly the difference is the bar table "bar box" is 7 ft x 3 1/2 ft. compared to 9 x 4 1/2 or the less common 8 x 4.

I think the general consensus is that bar tables are 3.5" x 7" since MOST bars have those kind of tables. While most bar tables do have a larger weighted cue ball for the ball return system, I have seen drop pocket bar tables and bar tables with non-weighted Aramith balls where the cue ball returns to the regular ball return and the door to the ball return is open. I have also seen bar tables with fast rubber. However, bar tables with a non-weighted cue ball and fast rubber are more of the exception to the rule than the norm.

U better believe macguy knows what a bar table IS.
I think his comments are meant to point out that the ONLY difference today is the size.
Especially at the top tournaments with Primo Diamonds.
