Great stuff here. Earl and Buddy at the peak of their power. Notice both are breaking with their playing cues. I believe that's a Gandy table, a pretty soft table. This is the first tournament Accu-Stats ever did! I remember Pat asking me if I wanted to do it with him. We had just done the Sands tournament a month before in Reno and taped the final three matches. I didn't want to go all the way to South Carolina so I told Pat to go ahead without me. :)

Also notice he is using only one camera at a high angle, and you can still see all the shots. Pool is a relatively easy sport to televise, always has been. In snooker, they still predominately use the same view for their main camera.
Pat Fleming is doing the commentary. You can watch this and better judge how players today compare with the best players from thirty years ago.

This is a great match that goes hill-hill. Watch the jump shot Earl makes on the two with his full cue on the final video here (part 11). A good argument for no jump cues allowed. They both break wide open, just trying to make balls and get a shot on the one. The strategy is a little different today . And finally check out the shot on the six Earl makes in the last rack with the match on the line. No easy shot here!

Going thru the Big C fight myself, and it does seem to keep you tired and seeking a lot of sleep. Good thing is that treatment is in the morning, and gives me time to rest and still go and play in the league and a Sunday tournament...actually won it this past Sunday. Wishing you and I a quick recover and meet in the finals of the US Open when we are finally ready to go at it....good luck buddy

Now that's a US Open final I'd make a big effort to attend!

Good luck with your own battle and congrats on the win in the Sunday tournament.

PS Mickey Mantle was my childhood hero.
