Come here looking forward to a good story from before my time and you have second thoughts!

Dean some of us enjoy reading your stories even if we dont comment often. One day the stories on AZ Billiards will be the only written record of such memories. Ignore the folks with a difference in opinion and keep posting!

on second thought

I’ve got you one better.

So there I was. 7 billiards. I had been plotting this score for months if not years. The place is dead when I get there so I take up a table in the corner to get warmed up a bit. I play like sh!t. I mean just terrible. I can’t get into it. I’m frustrated and feel like breaking down into tears because my magic has deserted me.

A dude who I heard plays real well comes over and asks if I wanna play some for cheap. I figure maybe that will kick start me back into my game. Then I find out the guy wants to play 9 ball. I don’t really like 9 and 10 ball anymore but that’s this guy’s jam. Not only will he not play 1 pocket but he wants to bet 50 a pop instead of the 20 that I’m trying to get by with until I know if I’m coming out of my funk or not. Even on my best game it’d be tough against this guy. So I’m like 20 or gtfo. He left in a huff and I quit playing pool for several hours.

i honestly could not play a lick, but i won the biggest scores
i ever heard about without playing good

i am amazed how people know what i did won't work when they have no idea what i did.

they assume i won millions the same way they win $10 pool games

honestly i was going to tell you a story how we won with a system r plan like in the movie the sting
not some two bit hustle
sometimes we had $100,000 in seed money in order to lay down the spread and a cast of as many as a dozen major or minor players

we identified bookies, gambler, pimps and drug dealers not mom and pop,we created an image, and had them chasing us.

I felt good beating these guys, they had easy money ,it was fun taking it

Will it still work? go ask lou,he beat john once for about 1% of what he should have

lou wouldn't know what i am talking about yet he knows it won't work

i partnered with eddie taylor, eddie kelly, ronnie ,red and others but guess who won the money?
and often it wasn't even pool where the big money was won.

propositions,gaff games,tricks even

we had guys like casino owners and huge drug czars, entertainers, limos

there is a difference in a small time hustle and a well financed professionally
orchestrated plan

it amazes me how guys with no feedback seem to know so much about everything

pool players are not able to win great big scores by themselves

or maybe my memory is so weak that these things never happened

Dean, I have no doubt you pulled off a number of big scores.

If some of the doubters would have paid attention over the years, they should have seen a few clues to your ability to make a score.

Some on AZB would scoff if you could lay golden eggs while they personally watched.

My suggestion is find a way to quietly prepare another "move". Take those winnings and continue to enjoy your life.

In Central Texas, we used to say that pilfered watermelons always tasted the sweetest. I still feel the same about money won by gambling. May not be the best attitude for the politically correct crowd of today but, at 74, I am ok with it.
