If you found a "moderately" priced TAD, get it.
They are sought after and have a great reputation.

I think they have great shafts.

I played with one for a couple years and really liked it. The handle of the cue was a "tad" smaller diameter that fit my hand great too.

Old Tad cues sold really cheap, but now it seems all Tad bring premimum $$.

Tad Kohara is one of the great classic west coast builders. He has an enduring reputation for quality and playability from the 60's and his cues are some of the few that have a chance to appreciate, or at least maintain value. Like Ken said, his shafts are famous...dense, old growth, great taper, very well cured. That looks like a Titlist conversion, not sure when it was built, but at the right price you can't go wrong. Is this from Tailand?

Yours looks like the Tad 4-R on this page. Haven't heard back yet on prices, how much is the one you're looking at?

Tad Kohara is in the International Cuemakers Association (ICA) Hall of Fame.

He was an apprentice to Harvey Martin and acquired all of Harvey's cue making machinery when Harvey Martin passed. His cues are considered among the best and he is considered a top tier cue maker.

I've owned many Tad cues.

That's about 3,500 US dollars. I would estimate somewhere between $2200-$2900 in the US if you could find one. That one is a little rare since it is wrap less. The serial number, I would guess, is probably from the year 2000.

The cue that is pictured is (I think) a relatively recent (about 2000 w/out doing the math) TAD build using a Japanese Titlist blank Tad bought a zillion of in the 70s. They still have a few left and will spin one up for favored clients. Tad loved these blanks and laughed at me when I asked if they were as good at the American version (and as always he was right - sorry purists)

I was offered a brand new one out of his shop last week, white flat joint, big pin, 2 shafts, fresh build, wrapless hoppe just like the one shown. If someone wants one about 3K, let me know and I'll see if its still available.

BTW. Tad Kohara is back in the hospital and has been so (I hear) for the last month.

Thanks

Kevin

The catalog pics look like knockoffs.

Check out the points.

after a long talk with az member "rayjay", i speak for myself,
have decided to veer far away from overseas sales of TAD Custom Cues.
may i recommend same to everyone reading.
let's stay home, you know, if we don't have it, then it just ain't ;)

Agreed. If you want a moderately priced Tad, I may be able to help.... I am considering selling off another one of my Tads. PM me.
