How many real working players are there in the U.S.,That can even play close to this guys speed? NONE

This fellow definitely deserves a shot at this, he has the most integrity of probably any pool player in the U.S. In the last 20/30 years, maybe ever. And if your trying to change the face of U.S pool you could not find a better spot to start this team off then with SVB, and Donny Mills.

I don't think you could find 5 people that actually know Donny that could say a bad word about him.

It amazes me really that in our whole country, of all the people calling themselves pool professionals, and that play full time, there's not 10 guys that can beat this guy, and he's a full time worker. That says a lot about his game.
What if he really could put in the time like say an SVB? Although it would/will never happen as it does not make sense money wise.

I'd like to hear your thoughts/feedback as to why you think this guy does/doesn't make sense as a team USA representative.

Thanks

As we are talking about Mosconi Cup spots, there seems to be a lot of speculation as to who should be in. My suggestion for the spots is pretty simple. Pay attention to who shows they are capable of beating the Europeans when they match up in tournament play. Who gets a W when they meet likely members of the Euro team, like Souquet or Appleton, or whoever. I don't know about Mr. Mills record against the Euros, but I do know there are some who have won when against those guys, like Oscar Dominquez. I'm sure there are other considerations, but if I was looking for team members, I'd want people who have put a W on the board.

But all the guys previously chosen have the potential to win a short set against anyone.

Takes a special mindset to bring it when mosconi calls. Donny is sort of out of the competitive arena though, isn't he? I haven't heard much about him, results wise, lately.

Plays good as a mofo, but I don't think he is in mosconi strokoni now.

He sure as hell wouldn't make the team worse though.

He's in... Fuggit.

Get um, mills.

The only problem I see is that he is a working man. Would he be able to drop work to do the training events that have been talked about? Sounds like some traveling might be involved, and he doesn't fly.

I think Donny would would make a great choice. He would absolutely horsefu@#$ most of the other guys being mentioned as choices.

I'm not familiar with Donny Mills' game, but I think I do remember reading somewhere that he did not like to fly in airplanes. This year's Cup is in England, which is an airplane ride. Maybe if he gets selected, he will jump on that plane.

I'm the same way. Just don't like flying. :embarrassed2:

I believe Donny does indeed fly now and I'm sure he could get away from his own business for a few weeks.

Donny has flown, recently.

I think Donny would make a good choice. If the MC goes with racking the 9 ball on teh spot again, I think that works in DM's favor.

A couple of years ago, the US Open had the 9 ball on the spot. Everyone was using the cut break. Who do you think took third? Yep, that's right.

The other thing is that as a MC player, you're in sales. You're selling entertainment. In some cases, ya gotta have a likeable personality, in addition to being able to run out. If you spend a few minutes talking to Donny, he's a cool dude.

Load him up on Dramamine, and lock and load! I think it would be great if he got a chance to play even though I don't see it happening.

Donny would do a fantastic job representing us at the Mosconi Cup. When I was home from college I worked at the pool hall in Clearwater when he first started playing. Its amazing to see how far his game has come. Everyone has their opinion about the pattern racking, including me, but last week Donny spent an hour showing me this aspect of the game. First I would rack and he would tell me where the 9 ball would go and what would carom where. Then he racked the balls and did his soft pattern break. Both ways he was about 85% right what was going where. The hours of practice he had to have put in to master this is staggering to me.

Unfortunately for Donny, he has little to no chance of being named to the team, IMO. Part of that reason is that he isn't a full time player.

That should have no bearing on it. He can beat all of the other first timers being mentioned and he is a good fit for the team from a chemistry and character standpoint.

I'm not saying it should or shouldn't, but it will. They want players that are visible, with fans and sponsors. Ultimately, it all feeds the industry. Regardless of how well Donny plays, he is on the outside, looking in. Doesn't matter that that has been his choice. Just how it is.

Ok, so how is it better for anyone if the players chosen can't beat Donny or Stevie? If the objective is to find a "new" guard that demonstrates good character and good chemistry, then Mark would be an idiot not to choose those 2, given that they personify those 2 qualities AND the fact that they have the most game of all the new guys.

I have known donny since I was 14 and he was a great player..but who the F@!# has he beat in the last 5 years? Oh! Thats right nobody. You keep talking about him horsef! $#@ing everyone mentioned but yet he doesn't play anyone. He works and makes smart money like the intelligent guy that he is.

He has offered to play some guys, on his table his town his rules.
How do you think he would fade a table he's never played on, in a different country with everyone rooting against him. I guarantee not the same way he plays at home in his room his game.
