So - 89 it is! And 7 of the missing balls were easily makeable. Missing 4 on the 6 ball rack was brutal.
It makes you think a 100 should be within reach, right? :grin-square:

I've had lots of heartbreaks the last few days reaching Level 15 with no deductions several times and then really getting crushed by the last two levels. Again, great job with your great score.

Regards,
Dave

Agreed. I do think 100 is doable for someone. I suspect a number of the top shooters on AZB could get 'er done.

But, as you noted, those last 2 levels can be pretty deflating. One cluster on an early ball and *poof* - an hour of great shooting down the drain! Lucky for me, I falter much earlier so I eliminate the extra pressure of a perfect score pretty quickly. lol.

Yes they can I was at 95 today after level 14. Hung a ball up early in rack 15 trying to break up a cluster. Then level 16 I could only manage 3 balls. Ended up with a 72. I racked all 15 balls and broke them 5 times after that and not one time did I have a rack where I could get past the 4 ball. So the 4 times I’ve tried the challenge and the 5 extra 15 ball racks and not one layout have I managed to get to the 5 ball. I’m just lucky that way.

That Level 16 can be brutal. 72 is still very strong. Post a score and video the next time you put in a good attempt. You should be able to get into the top 3. If not, you will still be in the Lottery Division.

Good luck,
Dave

Completed it this morning. Bar box

0 points deducted through # 7

# 8 I left 6 balls on the table. I attempted to run them in order for more of a challenge. Stupid

# 9 - 0
#10 - 0
#11 - 3 4 balls were clustered. I probably could have broke them out but felt it was more important to get all the open balls off the table. At the end, I hit the cluster breaking 1 out and making it. I then smacked the cluster and made nothing.

#12 - 9 points deducted. I was busy thinking about my next shot and pissed the bed.
#13 - 0 Made 3 balls on the break which helped
#14 - 1 point deducted. Tried to get cute on the 9 and missed
#15 - 4 points deducted. Made 2 solids on the break.
#16 - 10 points deducted.

My score was a 67. I could have done a couple balls better but I also slopped a couple and got lucky.

I could have done much better on #12 and got pretty lucky on the break on #13

I just entered a 79 in the RDS 100 Challenge. Here's the video:

Dr. Dave - RDS 100 Challenge entry - 79 - 8/9/2020

Score = 100 - 7 (L14) - 5 (L15) - 9 (L16) = 79

That's a good score, but it should have been much, much better. My misses were all easily preventable:
- not "aiming while standing" carefully enough and thinking too much about position and not enough about making the ball - 23:36
- unlucky position leave and miss of an easy jump shot - 26:55
- not compensating for stun-shot cut-induced throw - 28:13

good shots:
- long, tough combo - 6:59
- nice breakout shot with unlucky leave followed by good jump shot - 27:23
- good thin cut followed by very nice jump bank - 28:00

This Challenge is a little addicting and great practice, so I plan to continue to work on it until I get into the 90s. I think a 100 is even possible with a little luck and if I play my best.

Regards,
Dave

Bummer. Let's keep our fingers crossed that a vaccine comes out soon. Let's also hope the US does a better job at controlling the virus than it has the last 4-5 months. The US infection and death rate trends have been terrible lately, compared to most other countries in the world.

Regards,
Dave

Or we could just hope that they don't inflate the numbers since we have an election coming up. Such as I saw the other day where someone was killed in an accident but it was listed as dying from COVID 19.

Yep you have to watch out for the grand international conspiracy of reporting 100s of thousands of deaths incorrectly to make sure the pandemic (which all other civilized nations are tracking reporting and working to prevent and has killed 3/4 of a million people worldwide) is purely a worldwide hoax perpetrated to influence the election in the US.

Only the extreme ends of the political spectrum in this country could turn a horrible disease taking the lives of so so many into a political issue.

I mean seriously "someone" was mis-categorized as Covid clearly means that all reported deaths are reported incorrectly. Only reasonable in your mind I guess to just accept that ignorance and partisanship will cause many many more deaths here in the US. I refuse to do that

You have your opinion and I have mine. You would have to be ignorant not to be able to see the whole picture.

There have been some issues with reporting of deaths and there are isolated mistakes like the one described in your anecdote. However, the huge death impact of COVID is clear. For more information, see the answers to all IMPORTANT QUESTIONS in my July 4 Facebook Post dealing with this topic. Here's one of the pertinent questions and answers:

CAN THE DEATH RATE NUMBERS FOR COVID-19 BE TRUSTED?

There are some issues with reporting practices in some cities, counties, states, and countries, but if you look at total deaths (due to all causes) over time, the impact of COVID-19 is clear. See:

and

Here's the meme I created to include with my Facebook post:

80216125_3792906054069510_1489248443273483312_o.jpg

Unfortunately, much media coverage and many conspiracy theories are driven by political agendas and emotions, but the data is quite clear.

But this thread is probably not the place to discuss this any further. And in my experience, no amount of discussion will change most people's strongly-held opinions on this topic, despite what all the data clearly shows. However, those interested can visit the Facebook post and read all of the QUESTIONS and answers in the main post and the large number of comments. But only do so if you have a few hours to kill.

Enjoy,
Dave

FYI, I just posted a new video demonstrating a score-based version of the Runout Drill System (RDS), consisting of a set of 16 break-and-run challenges of increasing levels of difficulty. In the scored version of RDS (RDS 100), you run through one rack at each level, starting with 100 points and deducting points left on the table after each miss or foul. Check it out:

As always, I look forward to your feedback, comments, questions, complaints, and requests. I also hope you decide to enter the Challenge and try to beat my 77.

Good luck,
Dave

PS: Official entries are due by August 31, 2020.

I'd like to enter these but my issue is my cameras, I got two nikon cameras both of which stop recording after 29mins.

I've checked with the manufacturer and it is indeed set to be limited to a max of 29mins for videos, so with this, I don't know how to work around this issue, you want a no-edit, but I can only make a 29mins then 29mins then 29mins if needed, is this accepted?

You can submit videos in parts as long as it is clear the run continues from one part to the next (e.g., by keeping your cue and balls on the table). You might want to set a timer so you can deliberately stop and restart recording to help make it more clear the run is continuous from one video part to the next.

FYI, here's a quote from the BU Exam Challenge rules that might be helpful:

Your submitted video must be a continuous, uninterrupted, and unedited run at the entire Exam, and it must be obvious there is no trickery or cheating involved. During the entire video, stay in the frame of the camera (unless you absolutely need to take a bathroom break), keep balls on the table during each drill (e.g., pulling them out in groups of 4, 5, 8, or 10 during Exam I), and keep your cue on or against the table when spotting balls and between drills. You are not allowed to practice shots in between each of the required drills or shots. If you need to break up your video into multiple parts to store or upload them separately, make sure it is totally obvious that the run is being continued without interruption (e.g., by pausing in the middle of a drill with all of the balls and your cue remaining on the table). If you are having trouble with your video file sizes being too large, you can dramatically compress them using a free software tool called HandBrake.

Good luck in the Challenges,
Dave
