And how many years have you been going? i havnt missed one! and i hate the freakin casino rooms are overpriced, the prices for the tourny keep going up...etc.Have you ever heard of the johnson city tournaments? now listen to this, all the players who play accu-stat matchs have to wear a diamond shirt.which use to be free to players but now they have to pay for them...how is that fair? and all pool players want to win money that why they play the game! THE EW WAS THE NUTS!

I agree. I too haven't missed one of the DCC Tournaments and probably won't but I go under protest now for the same reasons you mentioned. A casino is the worse place to have a pool tournament. The casino drains money out of the pool economy that can't be replaced. The reason the action rooms aren't crowded is that the same people who would be matching up in the action rooms are giving their money to the casinos or have to drive into town for a room they can afford or can justify the cost of.

I'm not a fan of the casino either but keep in mind they didn't leave the EW by choice. Not many hotels have the facilities to host the event and moving to a convention center kills much of the action and convenience of being where you stay. Greg tried to stay in Louisville as I understand it but couldn't make it work.

I first heard about the tournament 4 years ago and have been the last 4 years. That means I have been to 2 at EW and 2 at HS. The tournament prices are going to go up, unless people stop *****ing about location and put more effort into promoting our sport. All the negative comments deter sponsors from putting money into the hat. They don't want to help sponsor an event that people aren't happy with.

I don't care where they have the tournament, I am going to try to be there. As the old saying goes, you can't please all the people all the time. No matter what, someone is going to complain about location. It's too far! It's too expensive! Too cold! Too hot! Crappy food! The list will go on and on and on.

It seems to me that everyone wants it moved for a different reason, but they all say it is because of the name. It seems to me that most of them are the people wanting the action to be like it was at EW. Those of us who are really there for the love of the game could care less about the action. As crazy as it sounds, we are actually there to play pool!!! When you see those big tournaments on TV, are they being played in a half-assed hotel? No!! They are being played in casinos most of the time. The tournament that we love is 10 or so years old and on its way to being a top tournament. We all need to act like it is. The EW didn't want to work with Greg and that is why we aren't there anymore. Like it or not, I think we are where we need to be. That is my opinion. I don't expect everyone to agree with it. I am fine with that. All I can do is give my 2 cents and maybe put a different perspective on the situation.

the dcc has been a disappointment since it has been at the casino. I could care less about the food or the casino. i have been coming to the dcc for more than ten years. i come for the action!!!!!!!! and the casino has stolen that from us. i dont even look forward to going anymore. i would eat cold hot dogs and old pb sandwiches if i could be at the executive watching the dcc.

I liked the e.w. Better

but biching & complaining on this forum isn't going to bring back the old hotel.
That venue is gone.
For now it is going to be at the casino.
If you hate the venue that much, dont go.
As for changing the name, give me a break.
It is still a great place to see the best players & the best games being played.

Slim, In some ways I agree with you and I don't want to cause problems for Greg, Mark or Diamond as I respect them very much, but your post reminds me of the APA proponents

who say that because there are 270,000 APA members that everyone must like the system. In both cases this is wrong! If you don't express your displeasure about something

people get the idea that things are hunkey dorey! I think that letting people know how you feel, even if you will support them anyway, is better than just keeping it to

yourselves. I've been to every DCC so far and do not plan on quitting any time soon, but I will also say that it was at least twice as enjoyable at the old venue. I go to the

Horseshoe even though I hate casinos! I feel they suck the money out of the whole economy of the tournament. I'd rather go to an event that was slightly smaller, at the old

venue or one similar, than the extravaganza at a casino! I refuse to stay on premises so I end up driving in from town. That doesn't take much longer that it does to walk from a

room in the casino hotel! The restaurants in the casino suck and are way overpriced. The only thing nice I can see is the Graeters Ice Cream parlor which has everything inflated

about 50% over what they charge in the Graeters stores in Cincinnati. I'm not cheap. I don't mind spending money, even giving it away at times but I hate to be gouged and

that's the way I feel about everything you do at the Horseshoe or any other casino for that matter. Casino's are for suckers and I don't like being forced to contribute to their

coffers!

thanks for letting me know that my opinion is wrong.
I realize now that is much better to whine & complain on this forum than it is to talk to greg in person as i did at the derby last year.
In stead of having anything posative to say i should just point out how terrible the venue makes the event.
90 % of the comments used to be about how bad the e.w. Was.
I have been to 5 derbys & the two friends i go with have been to all of them.
I just don't see the big problem with the casino.
i go to watch pool.

I would love to see it back in Louisville, Ky. Then to me it would be the real derby. At the casino when they are done with you room eats and drinks you don't even get a kiss good bye. Skip

One thing I know personally is that the attitude of the people at Derby has turned me off completely and I will never do another TAR room like we have in the past. Its worse than daycare.

Pool better start looking at a lot of things besides venue selection if it wants to solve problems. We are lucky as hell anywhere half decent would even have us based on how we act as whole. Adults don't trash the place, sleep on any open piece of floor and smoke places they KNOW they are not allowed to by law. All over and over again with the attitude of a 15 year old that "No one can tell me what to do".

Obviously not everyone is like this but there is enough that when I think about Derby now I dont think about good times I think about what it must feel like to be a kindergarten teacher.

Good to see you have a sense of humor.

you're welcome slim. I'm glad we're in agreement on that anyway! Lol

hopefully the derby will be around (whatever the venue) for many years to come.

Hope to run into you next year.

Enjoy the day,

Tap, Tap, Tap.

I've been to 2 DCC, one at EW, and one at Casion in 2010. I personally like the casino better. Much nicer hotel imho. Plus, the seating was much nicer to watch matches. And I too brought extra cash for the Casino since I was expecting to play in a poker tourney or two.

But guess what, there just was not time for poker. Between playing in 1P, hanging in the AZB room, looking at cues and other vendors, and sweating the matches, and the TAR match ups and then sweating the other late night gambling match ups, thus the only time left for poker would have cut into my 5 hours of sleep per night. So, I never stepped inside the Casion. My wife thought I was kidding when she asked how the Casion was I told her I don't know, I never went inside.

Plus, the name game is just plain silly and childish. The Dallas Cowboys don't play in Dallas, the NY Giants don't even play in NY. Heck, I would have to change my name since I was born and raised in Chicago but no live 40 miles west in the burbs. It's "his" tournament and he can call it whatever he damn well pleases. If he wants to call it the ChicagoRJ Classic, heck, then he gets to do it. (check is in the mail) Personally, it should really just be called the Efren Open based on how many Master of the Tables he has won !!

Nobody is going to be happy about everything. Heck, lets be glad that the tourney is still in full swing and is still here.

But here is something. If the food prices are too high, then pack a loaf of bread and a couple of jars of PB and jelly and a box of granola bars, you are good to go. If it was good enough to get me thru my bachelor years, it won't kill you in a week. Plus, if you have time to eat, you must not have been gambling enough !!
