The first pic shows inlaid dot over the point veneers. Sign of low end import

Cannot tell if it's bad lighting or bad workmanship.

Post more pictures of the points and inlays.

Looks like the black rings behind the joint are black linen phenolic and the same on the shafts are a non linen black plastic. Looks like the sleeve has non linen as well. Interesting.

Thanks all, I'll give him the bad news.
Yeah, it's an import... from a far and exotic land called New Jersey.

My guess is it came from one of two NJ guys, and was jazzed-up in the aftermarket due to Palmer-envy

Does the cue even have veneers?

If there are no veneers and the inlays are reasonably clean and symmetric, I'd have to say that it's just a super-nice example of Karl Mayer's work.

Some of his cues can be on the tacky or gaudy side, but this one is really attractive.

Check out the joint screw- I believe that Karl Meyer used a 5/16 18 piloted joint screw- at least he did on one that I owned. also, many of his cues were located in the PA. / NJ/ NY areas.

I'd put a smooth black leather wrap on this thing, change the tip, and try to play with it.

Man, do I really like this cue.

Did you say shrubberies?

It's a Mayer. The linen looks like a thick (high number) fishing line - Cortland or similar.
