would you rather watch goofs, of good players?

last night at michaels, we had a house full of good to great players and the only two people betting over 5 dollars were the worst two players in the room. they played 500 a game one pocket and it was great. i personally have seen so much good pool that i would rather watch something like that... how bout you?

I'd rather watch competitive pool between 2 good players, don't care whether they are betting or not.

I would watch the game where I might learn something. If there are two tables going, and I am going to watch and not play myself, I am going to watch the table with better players. I am more likely to see something on that table I that I could apply to my game than on the lesser skilled table. Money makes no difference.

reading the thread title I was thinking you meant pros miscuing...etc.???

I get to see medicore pool all the time (league), and have only been to one tourney with very good players....I'd rather watch neither and be playing myself.

Who were the 2 betting? I thought Bartrum and Murphey were playing and next to them were Doug young and Ryan Stone arguabily 4 of the toughest around the area

Sometimes when I watch two bangers playing, I get this feeling it takes me out of stroke!

During league matches when I'm matched up with a banger, I just sit and look at the floor until it's my turn to shoot.

I would get more excited about two top players matching up - and only because it doesn't happen often enough.

But if two lower level players (like myself) were matched up that is just as interesting. I just like to watch people gamble, period. I like to be in Vegas & find a guy betting $10K-$25K a hand at the Belagio & watch. Surely, I could find my own table & bet my own limits but his bet is more interesting.

Also, two lesser players can be just as exciting. Compare it to high school basketball vs NBA. The players know what to do, just don't execute it as often or with as much skill. I think I could coach a good player that has not played much one pocket into being at least a ball better in their game.

I agree 100% its pointless they are not trying to better themselves and god forbid they win you will never here the end. In my area you got 2 or 3 teams with 2 or 3 legite players and up and comers then you have the bangers witch is cool i guess to keep the bars runing but man they are not fun to play.

Although I can't remember where I heard it, I know I've heard that Efren Reyes makes it a habit to watch lesser skilled players because he says they try crazy shots and he gets ideas from that.

Regardless of $ amount the best action to watch has to be good players who are characters/goofs like HINES.:) :) :) :D

This concept would really show you how to think out of the box. Very interesting and it gained some validity coming from Efren. Nice post.

Unless its top players who I can really learn from, I think I'd rather watch bangers play for big dough for a little while at least.

Its kind of fun watching guys dog balls 6" from the hole if the moneys high enough and they really want to win. They want to win SO bad but just can't find the pocket. A lot more twists and turns then watching guys just run out like they should and it doesn't really mean anything. Nine balls four railing in for the $$ after a guy misses the pocket by three inches,etc... I can watch Accu-Stats tapes if I just want to see good pool.

When Boy George beat Kamikazee Bob for some big dough in Reno, Bob was missing shots four inches away from the side pocket at $2k a set and it was fun to sweat; it almost made my stomach hurt thinking about playing that bad for that amount of cash.

If its Efren playing one pocket for only ten bucks, I'd still rather watch that than B players play $10k a set, though.

I was one of the players, and yes I’m admitting to being one of the worse players there. We played after both matches were over. No one seemed to be doing anything but woofing at each other… until I got woofed at. Ha ha.

Excellence in pool, or nine ball that is, has only destroyed whatever interest there is (or was) in the game. When the contest comes down to a few safes or jumps, of what interest can it be ? Entertainment doesn't come from perfection. It comes from a lack thereof. I'm not saying that pool should become "bangers for dollars", but certainly, there is a place for watching a match where pressure gets the best of a person. Watching a couple of B players playing for a c note qualifies for that.

I've said it before

once again, I'd pay a decent amount to watch the APA/BCA/ACS national championships (teams or singles).

living in vegas for years, i have seen it all, i have a friend who would blow 1-2 million a night or win that much, anyways it was fun going out the first few times, then i realized something he was just playing craps with different color chips. thats it. nothing different except in most casinos the $25,000 chips are bigger and in a few joints the $5,000 chips are bigger.

I'd rather have a root canal than to have to watch hours of bad pool (you said "goofs", so I'm assuming they play real bad). Other than that, I don't mind it so much.

imo
