Aiming System

I can't tell you how many times I've heard this sort of crap spew forth on this forum.
Dropping names like it's supposed to mean something. Or, if I wasn't 70 years old, for crissakes.
What the hell. If the dog hadn't stop to shit he would have caught the rabbit, too.

ALL I know is what I can and did do, whether YOU accept it or not, that's on YOU!

I don't know YOU from Adam, But, if I was forced to make a bet, I'd wager I have gambled MORE in my life than YOU on our respective abilities!

Now, anytime YOU want to get back on topic, just let me and the rest of the members know!

REALLY?!? You have been off topic this entire thread.

Is the fact that I mentioned there's an aiming sub-forum really bothering you for some reason?
now you see how foolish what you wrote sounds.

I hate when people get so "uptight" about what I post. Wen, wen, wen.
Maybe it time for you to go play in traffic, with your eyes closed.
Yep, that's why I posted that because I just love, the APA league scores posts.

Isn't that why they have an aiming sub-forum for aiming posts.
But maybe because it bothers you, if you ask nicely they will change it just so you will stop whining.
You were the one who started whining to begin with crying about this topic not being in the aiming forum.

For someone with good visual spatial skills one might not be better than another to visualize, but for others, one could EASILY be easier to visualize.
Yeah, that's the point: aiming methods aren't inherently better or worse than each other; they just work better or worse for different players.

What is the topic?

Aiming systems.

(What it's NOT...)

- Riddles about how cue sports and golf are "the only 2 games where the ball is sitting still, and the player propels it with a stick!" (even though as another poster pointed out T-Ball and croquet would also qualify).

- Arguing your self inflated golf prowess (which is magically 1 shot better than the person he is engaged in the "mine's bigger than yours" contest with) and dropping names so hard his back must STILL be sore.

- Yet another "mine's bigger..." argument. This time "I have gambled more than you...yadda, yadda, blow hard...yadda." As If that is some badge of courage worth bragging about. YAY! You just might be a degenerate gambler.

- And finally...Accusations about how OTHERS are hopelessly off topic, get this, because HE (and other posters) would like to refrain from being subjected to this practice.

Does that about sum it up?

I don't think you guys understand. Professionally playing those games is hard because the COMPETITION IS TOUGH...not that the games are inherently tough to play. There's a difference and you guys are arguing the wrong damn point.

So, its the competition that makes those other sports tough? Not the fact you have to hit a tennis ball 100mph or more, which pretty much eliminate 99% of the population. So, what exactly about pool is so inherently "tough" to play ? I know guys that are 75 pounds over weight, drink several beers during play, and shoot with a cigar hanging out of their mouth, and play quite sporty ! yes, tough indeed ;)

If baseball were "easy" they would NOT hand out contracts worth $325M dollars. But there are only a handful of guys on the planet that can do what that guy does.... Think about it.....a handful, on the entire fuggin planet.

I was a 2 for 25 years and played in MORE Pro and Pro-Am events in the Midwest than YOU can imagine! If I wasn't 70 years old, We'd be out betting it up HIGH!

!

Not bad Bill, I didn't even know you golfed. And all sports are hard, not matter which ones they are, to become very proficient at them. 2 Handicap is pretty strong !!

Just go easy on those lil old ladies SS checks in Florida ;)

Back when I was a porn star and 6 ft 3 inches tall, I used to beat the ghost at least 3 sets a day while working 2 jobs and trying to please 10 females..... That was before lunch
Yep, I was a bad mofo in dem days :grin-square:

I too, say welcome to the site.
Your question was a good one, but also one that hits a sore spot for many of our members.
You're too young to remember the CTE war of a few years back (sometimes referred to as the Great Aiming War), but it was brutal. Many died, and thousands were injured. I myself lost the use of my right arm for more than a year. Others suffered brain damage and were left in semi-vegetative states, drooling over their oatmeal. Oh, the humanity.
Time heals all wounds, they say, so now all we do is talk about tips, low deflection shafts, and ball polishing.
Best response in a Lloooonng time.

I use to play Cog #4 and 2 every Wednesday and Sunday for BIG$, along with Kemper lakes gambling with Ditka and Stan Makita who was the asst. Pro there.

Sounds like I would have had to give YOU a stroke!

If you gambled, around Chicago, you would have been a 'shortstop!'

You should be careful of what and whom you speak of, when you don't know their abilities!

Bill Smith "Mr3Cushion" here, write it down somewhere!

...In pocket billiards, it's even more exacerbated because you are using one object to hit another object that hits still another object towards the goal...Now arguably, the field of golf is much more difficult compared to the felt and flat plane surface of the pool table slate, but the focal point is still two objects removed from the ultimate goal.

Yes Pool has a unique difficulty and what it needs is unique simplifications and few find the ones that speak to them and most of us never hear about them when they do.

My God! Do you not see what's going on here? This is what happened the last time aiming systems were discussed. The mere mention of the subject foments hate and discontent. People start yelling and using extra large fonts. Making stuff up, like it really happened. It's evil, I tell you, and the only way to fight this menace from hell is to hit it head on.
Therefore, I Tramp Steamer, will never use a font larger than the one I'm using now. In addition, I promise never to use the color blue as my font color.
Also, I swear never to out, and out, lie about anything other than pool, and then stretch the truth only a bit.
I can only hope that the rest of you will follow suit so that we may avoid any further bloodshed. :thumbup2:

The balls are NOT moving, why would that make it more difficult. Would you rather hit a stationary golf ball, sitting on a tee, or have me throw one at you as hard as I could ? The choice is your, which would you chose?

The bottom line, there is one thing that makes baseball one of the most difficult sports to master, based on a certain "unique" characteristic that only relates to baseball, and NOT any other sport that I can think of. And it has nothing to do with field size, time limits, etc. And is why those that fail 70% of the time at the plate are HOF candidates. Anyone ?

LOL.

The one thing that is different, is when you play baseball and are on offense, you don't have the BALL. How huge is that?

Every other sport, when you are on offense, you get the ball/puck/shuttlecock/etc, you get to control it, you get to do with it as you may. Yeah, someone may try and take it away, but at least you start with it.

Can you imagine playing golf, and rather than it sitting on a tee, I get to roll it at you and you have to hit it :) I guarantee, Tiger is not breaking 200 that day ;)

Striking the CB with the tip of the cue is inherently difficult?

You can't compare ONE aspect of a game (hitting a tennis ball over the net) with ALL the aspects of another game (making all the known shots in pool).

It's either ONE/ONE or ALL/ALL, but not ONE/ALL.

And I maintain that -- while both are easy -- hitting a tennis ball over the net is more difficult than hitting a CB with the tip. If you want to compare pocketing a billiard ball...then compare it to hitting a tennis ball to the far corner your opponent's court.

LOL.

The one thing that is different, is when you play baseball and are on offense, you don't have the BALL. How huge is that?

How HUGE is the pocket in baseball?

In pool, you have to hit a 2 1/4 inch ball into a 4 1/2 inch pocket from as far away as 9 feet. I will admit the ball isn't a moving target though.

In baseball, your pocket is staying within bounds and as far and high as you can hit it. How many inches is that pocket?

Aloha.
