Squirt and Deflection= Swerve and throw as it is called in snooker are just terms to describe an occurrence when english is applied and terms used buy many cue builder to describe or quantify their shaft performance.

It just helps to improve communication. How else are you going to describe the difference between a predator shaft and say maybe a southwest shaft?

But you are right thought, there are people and companies like predator who are using it to death.

What comes to mind is a Jay Helfert quote.

"Don Willis robbed the world with a house cue!"

Ain't THAT the truth. However, the airplane that Lindbergh crossed the pond with was a custom built Ryan with HORRIBLE flying characteristics.

It was built essentially to carry a man and a LOT of fuel across the pond. A lot of pilots would have killed themselves in the thing but it was never produced for obvious reasons.

What I mean is that just because a champion can figure out how to beat us with a broom stick doesn't mean that we should all use broom sticks.

A reduction in squirt...all other things being equal, simply reduces the effect of a variable without having to learn how to do so and therefore, it seems to me, is a valuable achievment in pool cue technology.

Jim

While I think a low deflection cue can speed the learning curve: the most important element is just knowing that deflection, swerve, and throw exist. If we look back to our first days of playing pool, we can appreciate knowing this.
