Watch: Mark Allen's stepson Robbie McGuigan becomes UK's youngest player to chalk up

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/...st-player-to-chalk-up-147-break-36817084.html

Quote .

" Robbie McGuigan (13), the stepson of this year's Masters champion Mark Allen, scored the maximum break at the aptly-named 147 Snooker Club in Antrim in a record time of just five minutes and four seconds - 16 seconds faster than Ronnie 'The Rocket' O'Sullivan's best effort. "

Wow !

Looks like Robbie McGuigan is a name to look out for in the future !

PUNTER WINS £100k ON 15-MATCH SNOOKER ACCA

http://www.thecueview.com/punter-wins--100k-on-15-match-snooker-acca.html

" PUNTER WINS £100k ON 15-MATCH SNOOKER ACCA

A few of us like to have a flutter on the Snooker, but can you imagine nailing a 15 match accumulator and winning a hefty six-figure sum from one of the nation's leading bookmakers?

Well, that is exactly what has happened to one punter in Somerset. The bettor, who wishes to be anonymous, went into a branch of Ladbrokes in Somerset on Sunday evening and made a £100 bet on the outcome of 15 individual matches in the World Open, which is being played in Yushan, China, the following day.

Placed on one of the shop's BetStations, the person required all 15 match results to go his way, or he would have won nothing and lost the £100. He ended up with £100,124.82!

The 15-match accumulator in full and the prices for each match

Matthew Selt to beat Lee Walker (4/5)

Robert Milkins to beat David Lilley (4/11)

Ricky Walden to beat Dominic Dale (2/5)

Fergal O'Brien to beat Zhao Xintong (11/8)

Marco Fu to beat Peter Ebdon (4/11)

Noppon Saengkham to beat Rod Lawler (4/9)

Stephen Maguire to beat Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (4/11)

Jamie Jones to beat Zhou Yuelong (1/1)

Barry Hawkins to beat Akani Songsermsawad (3/10)

Gary Wilson to beat Tom Ford (5/6)

Jack Lisowski to beat Chris Wakelin (2/5)

Jak Jones to beat Zhang Anda (8/5)

Ali Carter to beat Rory McLeod (2/9)

Ryan Day to beat Robbie Williams (1/3)

Luca Brecel to beat Scott Donaldson (8/13)

The bet is quite extraordinary as it featured outsiders and matches which were very hard to call. There were a number of very tight outcomes in the selected matches. Remember, one wrong call meant the entire bet would have lost -

- Selt had to win the last three frames to defeat Walker 5-4

- Milkins had to win the last two frames to defeat Lilley 5-4

- O'Brien defeated Zhao 5-4

- Fu had to win the last two frames to defeat Ebdon 5-4

- Maguire defeated Un-Nooh 5-4

- Brecel defeated Donaldson 5-4

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “This is the biggest snooker accumulator win we’ve ever seen placed on a BetStation. Predicting the wins of 15 games has sent our traders snooker loopy, but we can only applaud this gentleman’s belief.”

I'm sure the winner is celebrating today, although £100 is a very big amount to place on such a multiple bet.

I'm delighted when I get a £10 double right... "

So that's how you win big betting on the Snooker folk's but it wasn't me , think I'll stick to small stakes on correct frame scores in search of a decent win but best of luck to the punter that got lucky !:thumbup:

Anthony Beeler - US Pool view on Snooker comparisons

VIP tickets for the Snooker World Championships in England are 400 pounds each. The first round tickets are 35 pounds and standard tickets for the finals range from 110-160 pounds. The Brit’s have done an excellent job promoting their sport. The winner gets around 425,000 pounds which is equivalent to around a half million US Dollars. I guess my gripe is why hasn’t the BCA done a better job with pool in America. If you are a cueist in England you are a huge celebrity. Maybe we need a new governing body for pool. If things aren’t moving in the right direction then maybe changes need to occur from the top? How do we get from where we are now to where snooker is? Perhaps we need to closely examine the way things are being done overseas. I just don’t believe we have the right people in the right places.

Wayne Jenkins I think the biggest problem here is too many governing bodies.....to many different leagues with different rules...Pool had no uniformity......no sponsorship worth mentioning unlike in golf......no spectatorship like baseball, football, basketball...…..I was watching a dart tournament that had at least 1,000 people there watching !!!! All the time I was thinking why can't pool be like that.....No one makes a living playing pool other than just a handful of players......and the ones that only play pool for a living don't make that much money.....that is why I work for a living....it pays better !!!!!!!!

Anthony Beeler It’s not presented in a high class way either. Look at the vests, bow ties, and tux worn to these events. It’s promoted heavily to the wealthy

Anthony Beeler If you think there isn’t money in snooker take a look back at the Steve Davis exotic car collection that he accumulated during the 1980s.

Bruce Lee Scott
Bruce Lee Scott There actually used to be more money in snooker when cigarrette companies were allowed to sponsor them. I read Jimmy Whites book where he described winning millions of dollars a year and wing it all because they knew there was millions more coming the next year.

Jim Spaniol
Jim Spaniol Pool isn't a popular spectator sport for a number of reasons. We do need to take some lessons from other sports.
1) Let's start with that issue of clothing. Take a look at WWF for the lesson here. There isn't a standard dress code for wrestlers. And yet the sport is televised and successful. Clothing isn't the problem.
2) Pool has a bad reputation because of gambling which causes spectators to shy away. I call a HUGE BS on this one. Sports for this lesson: football, poker, and a few dozen others.
3) Rules are confusing for spectators. Hmmm. Some merit there, perhaps. But think about baseball. Baseball has a lot of tricky rules. I'd say for pool it isn't a major problem at least.

Ok so what's the real problem?
1) Compared to most sports, pool doesn't have much constant action. Well, there is action when players are shooting but it's boring. To the uninitiated, pool played well is predictable. The players always do the same thing. And they take way more time to do it than Joe does down in his basement. The cue ball doesn't move far. And all the shots are easy. By contrast in football the viewer never knows what play will be attempted or what the defense will do. And the action is constant except for halftime which is a show in itself.
2) There isn't any drama in pool. At least from a spectator viewpoint. People who follow Nascar have favorite drivers and know of others they believe to be jerks. WWF grooms matches of good guys vs bad guys. Pool has been busy badmouthing and trying to eliminate "bad guys". Big mistake. We haven't had a built-up, widely publicized rivalry since Mosconi vs Fats.
3) Sad but true that pool video sucks. We put a single camera in one position that shows the entire table. Then the camera doesn't move. Not likely to attract a viewing audience that way.

Gerald Church There's a lot more to it than marketing and merchandising . The B.D.O. Dart players turned to Barry Hearn for help and it's now a worldwide game worth millions of pounds to the players same as the Snooker players turned to Barry Hearn , same results so ask yourselves why doesn't Barry Hearn step in to promote the great game of US Pool , maybe the answer is there.....

I think he's in Canada which is a relatively large country or I would go and look for him.

So far as I can tell, he stopped posting at about the time of the 2016 US election. Maybe he's still in his bomb shelter.
