Watching The Color of Money for the 157th time and I have a question.....

Why the hell doesn't Tom Cruise ask Forrest Whittaker (Amos) to play after he beats Eddie?

It's not like Amos knows who Vince is because Vince is an unknown too. Would have been a perfect time to ask him for a spot or play even at worst and beat him out of everything he had on him.

Maybe he saw Amos for what he was. A nit and a sniper and that he would pull out once Vince showed some speed.

Or maybe he wanted to leave it as it was having seen Fast Eddie being humbled after losing to Amos.

possibly, but I'm just not buying it.

I can see Stevie Moore, way back in the day before he came off the road, going into a pool room with a lesser player/short stop. Short stop plays the big stick/gambler of the house and loses a few games or sets then Stevie asks him to play and takes him off.

I think that scenario would happen 99% of the time in real life given the conditions of the Eddie and Amos outcome.

That being said, Amos could always be a better player and hustler than Vince. Probably not, but possibly.

They also didn't show what happened after Eddie essentially stormed out and Vince went back up there. He was pretty flushed at the tournament in Atlantic City, who's to say he didn't clean out Amos and anyone else in the joint and then flake on out?

I figured he just bulldozed everyone in his path the way he was acting, even though Vince was just plain horrible in reality. Great editing does not a pool player make.

Because Fast Eddie was holding all the cheese, and he was in no mood to watch pool at this juncture. He wanted to get the heck out of Dodge.

Vince couldn't play without Fast Eddie backing him.

yeah, but once you've spotted him, why not take him off? It's even better than taking off a known player because there is no danger of word getting out.

I think Vincent secretly knows Amos from the toy store, they both worked there and have been working on setting up Eddie from the start. He steered Amos for a cut of the action and then guilted Eddie into giving him some cash when he decided to quit!

I also have it on good authority that Carmen used to be a call girl. ;)

you may be correct, but even with only one bullet (or no bullets, lol), a lot of roadies would've tried to get down.

That is the least of the holes in the plot. That movie is like every perception and stereotype of pool by someone who actually knows nothing about the game. The entire plot is horrible from beginning to end.

It reminds me of the movie "Backdraft". that I went to see with a fireman and he was squirming in his seat he hated it so bad. It is often hard to sit through movies sometimes if you really know the subject.

Aint that the truth! I watched some train movie that Denzel Washington was in with two buddies of mine that worked on the rail road. They couldn't shut up the whole time! It was hilarious.
Why do the movie moguls spend all that money on special advisers and then not really utilize them? I guess it's a money thing. Mike Segal, Keith McCready, the Miz, Jimmy Mataya and several others worked on that movie and I'm sure they could have saved Martin from some of the mistakes that were made if only they were asked.

I loved that train movie. It was a thriller. It's hard to believe something like that really happened.

That was exactly my thought. There was plenty of wisdom on that set. It must be the fact that the script, although flawed in our opinion, was already written and they didn't want to go to the time and expense of rewrites. I have to believe several of the aforementioned pros would have spoken up. Guessing the brass just felt like who would know that anyway ... let's just keeps things the way they are. :frown:

I especially laughed at the scene where Vinny beats Mosel (sp?) while twirling his cue and dancing. I hate to think what would have happened to me if I ever did that in a strange room.

He still had $60 from beating Mozelle! "Double or nothin" him to death.
