Had a very good week. Not perfect, but pretty close to it
Monday night is my new(er) APA 8-Ball league that I joined 4 weeks ago.
This week we were away at an absolute sh!thole of a place (just as ghetto as where we are from), so we felt right at home and loved it
I played their best player (a 6), who was their captain and also a division rep for the league. I found out afterwards that he was 12/12 last session, and won the top tier Top Gun award..
The guy wasn't
baad, but I have no idea how he went 12-0 last session. His position game consisted of follow and 'draw the cue ball as hard as you can'.
You could tell he could make some shots (mind you it was an 8ft Valley with big Valley corner pockets), but I dont think I saw a single time where he used left or right hand english for a shot. And there were quite a few times where I was sitting there thinking, '
a little bit of left hand will get him perfect to get out', but then he'd look at the shot as confused as all get out, and simply end up blasting it in, or just making the ball without worry about his next shot
Now, we've all been there, and I was as well at one point. But this guy is a 6, and reigning Top Gun!! :scratchhead:
The only thing I can think, is he did a lot of ducking last session. Being the captain, he had to have been protecting his record while calling the match-up's.....I can see that, a guy gets to maybe 3-0 or 4-0, and starts to think about whats good for his record more than maybe the teams (His team finished next to last in the standings as well last session)..
I ended up winning 5-1, so now im 4-0 in matches (played a 5, 6, 6, 6), and 20-5 overall in games.
My step daughter shot awesome as well
She is a SL4, and played another SL4. She blanked the guy 3-0 (BOOOM!!). I actually felt a little bad for the guy, and you could see he was embarrassed..
She has just been getting better and better, and I think the lessons I paid for her when she first started a few years ago with a few traveling Pro's that came into my place, have really helped (Geno Machino, Lee Brett, John Schmidt).. Im very proud of her
Tuesday night is TAP 9-ball:
We played on the hardest table in the league. Its a 7ft Diamond, with 760 Simonis, 4 1/8" pockets. If that doesnt make it hard enough to play on, whoever did the table Fu*ked up the facings on the pockets, and they do not accept balls properly at all, especially one notorious corner pocket.
The captain of the team we played is the owner of the bar, and did this table like this on purpose, simply to help keep his teams handicaps down (TAP relies upon misses vs makes very heavily in their handicap formulations). Not only that, the team is a know sandbagging team, big time
I am the captain of my team, and we do not sandbag. We hate losing, and every player on the team would rather not even come out to play if he/she were asked to sandbag.
I ended up playing a guy who is a TAP 6, but should be a 7 all day long. But he is also a guy who doesnt miss on purpose, he plays to win. I dont mind it as much as long as the guy is playing to win.
I CANT STAND PLAYING A GUY WHO IS OBVIOUSLY MISSING ON PURPOSE TO KEEP HIS H/C DOWN
We both shot well, and both got bit several time on the one really bad pocket on the table, but I ended up winning 6-4. It was good win for me...
Very satisfying....
