a party I missed!
A couple of injuries kept me out of that party. I never got to enjoy the smell of burning diesel and sewage, the leaches and general all around nastiness. If I were ever in a war I'd prefer it someplace civilized. Maybe Monaco. Both sides agree to shoot at each other for thirty minutes each morning, say one from nine to nine-thirty while the other side digs in deep then the other side gets to shoot while the others chill in bunkers. Then everybody can hit the beach and casinos.
viet nam had nice beaches and decent surf best I recall. Beats me why everybody crawled into the jungle to fight. Hit the beach, throw fish at each other from a reasonable distance for awhile, say a hundred yards, then catch some rays and some waves. That is my idea of how to fight a war. If they want to do that shooting and arty and such then nobody under the rank of general should be allowed to play!

Be glad you weren't invited, you didn't miss much. Although China Beach and the women were fine, the weather, food, quarters, and cleanup sucked. The party lasted way too long and many guests overstayed their welcome. The price of admission was way to high for way too many.
