Here are some stats from the 2016 US Open Straight-Pool Championship played April 20-24 at Pool Table Magic in Windsor Locks, CT. Pay-per-view streaming was provided by CueSports International (CSI). The 14 streamed matches represented 27% of the total of 51 matches played during the event.

Stage 1 of this event was round-robin with the 20 players separated into 4 groups of 5. Three players from each of the 4 groups (12 players in total) then advanced to a single-elimination stage, with the top performer from each group in the round-robin stage receiving a bye in the first round of single elimination. The event winner was Dennis Orcollo.

All streamed matches were played on the same table, which has somewhat tighter pockets than the other tables in the room.

The conditions for this event included:
- Brunswick Gold Crown 9-foot table with green Simonis 860 HR cloth and approximately 4¾" corner pockets;
- Aramith Tournament balls, including the cue ball;
- triangle rack;
- fouls on all balls;
- opponent racked in some matches; rack your own in some matches; referee racked in the finals;
- lag for choice on opening break.

Attempted Scoring Innings means the player's total number of innings for the game minus the number of innings that he played only a safety or an intentional foul (no attempt to score a point).

PPI is Points per Inning based on the total number of innings in the game for that player. [Note: I call this measure Points per Inning rather than Balls per Inning to be a bit more precise in the definition, since the number of points a player is credited with in a game can be quite different from the number of balls he pocketed.]

PPASI is Points per Attempted Scoring Inning, i.e., points per inning based on the number of Attempted Scoring Innings in the game for that player.

Match number 1 was played on Wednesday, April 20; Matches 2-3 on Thursday, April 21; Matches 4-8 on Friday, April 22; Matches 9-13 on Saturday, April 23; and Match 14 on Sunday, April 24. Matches 1-8 were in the round-robin stage and matches 9-14 in the single-elimination stage.

Dennis Orcollo beat Shane Van Boening 200-121 in the final match of the 2016 US Open Straight Pool Championship this afternoon. Here is how it went, inning by inning.

Scores in brackets are for Orcollo first, then Van Boening. References to "left" and "right" sides of the table are as the player looks from the head of the table to the foot.

O1 (Orcollo's inning #1) -- opening safety break from right side, leaving the 1-ball out to the right side of the rack
V1 -- missed the 1-ball, undercutting it and leaving it hanging in the right foot pocket

O2 -- ran 43, but got stuck to the back-right corner of the rack and played safe [43-0]
V2 -- safe

O3 -- safe
V3 -- safe

O4 -- safe, but left the 4-ball at the top of the rack available for the left head pocket
V4 -- ran 4, then missed an easy 1-ball that was half a diamond off the left side rail with the CB near the left side pocket [43-4]

O5 -- ran 10, then missed a medium-length shot on the 2-ball to the right head pocket from near the left side cushion [53-4]
V5 -- ran 42, but had nothing after the break shot. From behind the pack, missed a hop/jump trying to carom the 10-ball off the 12-ball (and possibly the 6-ball) to the left foot pocket [53-46]

O6 -- ran 97, then scratched in the left side pocket on a break shot [149-46]
V6 -- ran 30, then missed a long 12/6 combo down the left side rail [149-76]

O7 -- ran 41, then missed a long cut on the 10-ball to the left head pocket with the CB real close to the 10-ball near the top of the rack [190-76]
V7 -- ran 45, but was stuck in the back of the pile and missed a 9/5 combo to the left side pocket [190-121]

O8 -- ran 10 and out [200-121]

Your effort does not go un-noticed either, Mr Griffin.

We stream watchers got our money's worth.
Hopefully, these tournaments will become a date on player's calendars and become a fixture.
