Newbie looking for advice : Brunswick Metro

My apologies if I put this in the wrong place on the forum. I'm just looking for some advice. I had my basement finished and am looking for a table. I thought I had found one but when I went to look at it I really didn't like it. It was a 7' Olhausen Drake II in black. Trying go go black because it will match my home bar.

While I was there I stumbled across an 8' Brunswick Metro (2004 I think) that was in really good shape. Black and aluminum finish. More money than the Olhausen but I'm assuming that it's worth the extra $$.

I can't find a lot of info on the table and don't know how to evaluate it for condition / value.

Just looking for some advice before I spend the money. Thanks in advance!

Between the two i'd take the Metro. Nothing like a GC as far as stoutness but they still play good. A lot of big Asian events were played on them. IIRC the World's used them one year.

That looks nice! I don't know how good of a deal that is but it sounds good.

I love the look of those tables.
When they used to have the pro tournaments on
them I always wanted one.
Played on a few. They play better than Olhausens, imo.
IIrc RKC had some complaints about their construction
but then again he has complaints about all tables
other than Diamonds.
$2500 seems fair if its in good condition and the rails
are in good shape.

I agree. Sure its no Gold Crown but it will give years of good play. I think that package price is pretty good.

I find them very unattractive.
The rails are too wide and too flat for my liking.
I've been told leveling them is a pain.
They were originally owned by Dufferin IIRC.
Then Dufferin went out of business. Brunswick took over.

For $2500, I'd hold out for a Gold Crown.

They've always been made in China for Brunswick afaik. Very common table over there. When was the last time Dufferin ever made a table? Just curious. Gotta be years ago. You're right that a GC would be a much better table IF the guy wants to wait and look for one.

What kind of balls and what kind of cues?

If they are giving you cheap balls and cues ask them to knock the price down because you are going with different cues and balls.

My home room away from home has only Metros (pic below). They play and hold up fine. The only problem they've ever had with them is the feather strips (that hold the rail cloth in) that came with them were a little too small (cloth coming loose), so had to be replaced. Don't know if that's a common problem with that table or not...

At first I would have agreed with you, I wanted a more "furniture style" table. My basement is all gray and black and the room where the table will be is all sports jerseys and SuperChexx hockey. My bar is also in that room and is black/stainless. After I saw it in person I felt like it would match the decor a little better than a decorative table.

When i lived up North- i had a home room finished basement similar to yours- my first table was a 9 foot Olhausen Drake- My second table was the Brunswick Gold Crown iV - I guarantee that the Brunswick you found will look and play better than the Olhausen- take it from a guy who had BOTH- Olhausen home tables play VERY far from any competitive table in pocket design and rail speed no matter who sets it up. You will be happier with the Brunswick. You have a very nice finished basement there- VERY NICE WORK!

I think the differing rail top width would drive me crazy.

Would you still be my friend?

I thought about that but it's my first table so I probably won't know any better. For me it was just something that I wanted for when friends and family were at the house. I wanted something that would look good in the room and not be a pile of junk. The black and aluminum is what caught my eye. I've been looking at used tables since March and almost everything around here is garbage or brown wood.
