From Germany, 21-year-old Joshua Filler aka "Filler the Killer" always rises to the top in any event he competes in. He's a legend in the making, and odds on this gentleman to score the big W are a good bet.

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz hails from Spain and brings a sense of class to the event. A humble player, but make not mistake about it, on a field of tournament blue, he's a lion.

The younger of the Ko Brothers, Ko Ping-Chung is a fierce comeptitor, and nobody likes to pull his name in the draw because they know they will be in a bloody battle to the finish line. Watch this 23-year-old make some noise!

Jeffrey De Luna, from Philippines, is 35 years age. They call him "Jeff Bata" because his playing style is so similar to Efren Bata Reyes. And we all know how strong Efren plays. ;)

Everybody loves Alex Pagulayan. Though he represents Canada, most know he's a Filipino sweetie pie with dual citizenship. If Alex wants to win, he will win. Vegas is a tough place for pool players to compete in due to the distractions, and I hope Alex has 100 percent of his concentration on this championship title. If The Lion roars in the winner's circle, we will all be roaring with him.

Aloysius Yapp dropped out of school to compete in 9-ball pool professionally. To most people, it’d seem like a risky move, and you’d constantly be asking yourself: “What if I don’t make it?” Aloysius’ answer to this tough question was this: “You’ve got to be fully committed to your choice, and don’t give up. I mean, that’s what I’ve done.” And it looks like his hard work has paid off.

This kid is the real deal and has pool running in his blood. He won the junior world championship at the age of 18. Look at him now! Congratulations on making the Final 16! If the 23-year-old wins, Singapore will be celebrating the night away, as will we right there with them — with Aloysius Yapp.

Lui Haitao from China. Haitao reached the semi-final of the 2012 WPA World Eight-ball Championship, and the 2013 World Games. Haitao won the doubles event at the 2017 Asian Indoor Games; alongside snooker player Lyu Haotian. The 37-year-old was the winner of the Chinese World Pool Championship this year and won the World Cup of pool in 2018. He's definitely on radar to make it to the finals.

Shane, Shane, Shane Van Boening from South Dakota, a humble player with a punch that can be heard around the world when he's in the zone. Shane is America's great hope to win this title, and you can be sure a lot of us will be chanting "USA, ALL THE WAY" between shots during his match. Go, Shane, go!

Wu Jiaqing is a Taiwanese-born Chinese professional pool player, nicknamed the Taishan Shentong ("Little Genius from Taishan").

Previously known as Wu Chia-ching, the spelling of his name was changed upon moving to mainland China.

Raised by his grandmother from the age of 2, Wu began playing eight-ball at the age of 10 at his family-run pool hall. When he became serious about pool, his grandmother would shuttle him from one competition venue to another on her scooter.

In 2005, after only six years of playing, Wu became the youngest player (at 16 years, 5 months old) ever to win the WPA World Nine-ball Championship.

I remember Wu-Wu very well when he won. I like this kid. Well, he's 30 years old but still a kid to me.

Shane VanBoening (USA) vs. Wu Jiaqing (China)

What strikes me about that list is how many from China and TAiwan who I never heard of and only one from the USA.

In longer sets I'd take Filler due to his recent play internationally but 9 ball in relatively short sets probably half the names on that list could win.

There is a growing fan base on Facebook for Aloysius Yapp from Singapore. He's won the hearts of many pool fans around the world. Everybody who knows him has only good words to say about him. I hope I get to see him play later today, if I'm not working. I like him already and haven't seen him play yet.

He'll be playing against Alex Pagulayan. Tough to root against Alex. Whoever wins, I'll be happy.
