Just wondering if someone could explain to me ( zero woodworking experience)
how a butt like this is constructed ? I am not trying to make one, just trying to visualize
how this one was made.

Thank you.

The points are a full splice construction. Easy to look up what that means and how it's done. It has an additional butterfly splice at the bottom. Butterflies are pretty easy to understand. You essentially cut off a wedge. You glue up the veneers and the wood. You glue it to the place to cover the wedge you cut off. Then you turn it round on the lathe to cut off the excess.
