Everyone here knows that NPR is the place that political discussion takes place. They know this by clicking on the NEW link and they see the titles.

I don't see any increase in people coming over from the rest of the site because they know that political discussion is allowed there.

I don't believe for one moment that making a political section is going to do more than just kill NPR.

What would help NPR is if people with positive things to post would join in with their thick skin and post about something wonderful in the world.

As far as the political stuff that happens outside of NPR what do you want management to do? Really spank every comment that falls outside of what the few think they should?

Practice a little forgiveness and realize we are country divided right now.

In closing I don't agree with your assessment unless you think creating a political forum would fix the division in the country.

I have recently sent a PM to Mike regarding something else, depending on the outcome of that I will consider pushing a political forum.

I just think there is WAY too much political stuff that happens outside of NPR and I also think people shy away from this forum because of that. If there was a political forum you could easily have a zero tolerance rule on politics outside that forum while STILL having an NPR forum where others can talk about fishing without having to deal with the political stuff. It really does get tiring and honestly, I've been a member of MANY forums over the last 15 years and I seriously think this place is the worse (other than Pirate4x4 - maybe) when it comes to nastiness between the different political views. If there was a political forum you could simply lock it and only let members in if they agree to the terms of that forum. I truly think that would change the atmosphere around here.

I really dislike the political content in any of the threads I’m interested in. Never been to NPR, for that reason. I agree with Measureman and jsalazar. Get that crap in a hole, where it belongs. Has definitely detracted a great deal from the funny pic thread.

When I get on, I like to click on the "new posts" and see what is being talked about on here today. Depends on the day and what shows up, sometimes politics drowns out the rest of the sight, like in my screenshot below, ain't the end of the world, just end up browsing the subforums individually.

Silly me, I recommended wearing medical grade masks to protect us pool players and got slammed because somebody somewhere decided to make it a political symbol. God forbid
I recommend seat belts while driving.

Personally I found it helpful to quickly identify who I wanted to associate with. Zero tolerance policy for Socialists and Communists.

There is plenty of rancor in the main forum without the discussion of politics. I try to stay away from politics on the main forum.

We all know that you can get more aggressive behind a keyboard than most of us will ever be in real life.

Lots of companies have clauses in their P&Ps about no-go topics; religion and politics being 2 that are always on the list. People usually cant discuss them civilly. Its no big secret that at some point, the conversation has a tendency to go to shit if there are opposing viewpoints in the conversation.

almost every thread regardless of content has to have one of our political idiots spewing
their hatred for someone or something.

It's gotten to the point that i hesitate to read a thread and am spending less and less time on this forum.

Yes i know free speech and all but it's getting out of hand.

I may quit coming here.

I have not seen alot of Political post here , Maybe I am not clicking on the rights threads . I learned very early on in life that you cannot have political or religious discussion's as you will offend somebody, I will if ask my opinion and give it like it is. But I try to keep my views to myself , I found out that those people have their minds already made and I am not gonna change it. So let be what will be. If it is not bothering me then more power to them as Mr Darling on Andy said.

A car guy forum I post on has an "off topic" section.
There, guys post about all sorts of topics. Movies to music, etc. Many of the posts
covering home do it yourself projects. It turns out this forum has experts in many professions who are willing to give advice and problem solving hints. Hell, one guy
was a genuine Rocket Scientist. Paving & home building contractors, electricians, stock brokers, MD's, you name it. The brain trust willing to share here is amazing.

The same forum also has a "politics and religion" section. There the tinfoil hat brigade can argue to their heart's content about sleepy creepy joe or orange man bad. Lots of back & forth going on. I doubt like hell anybody's vote or position has been changed, but it does allow the political types to vent.

So, I think a separation would work...with some stiff monitoring to keep people in the proper forum.

I never made a political comment one way or another until '08. And I haven't needed to make another in several years! lol

I'm very heavily into politics. I look for political discussions (in places intended for politics), because I want to present facts the other side hasn't heard (or ignores). I spend a lot of time with it. Political discussions can be maddening at times, and other times, it leads to research (busy work).

Such discussions very often lead to anger. "You idiot! Don't you know..." or YEAH!! You're right!! Why, those %$#&U%$s should suffer a terrible …"

A pool forum is a place to rest and relax, to talk with friendly people, to learn and share pool-related info... A place to get away from the worries and frustrations of the real world.

My opinion?
Either keep your politics in NPR, or create a politics forum. I don't like seeing political comments here! This just isn't the place for it. It spoils the mood.

Thank you for bringing this up, measureman.

On a high traffic tech forum I own, there's an off-topic section for just random & casual chit-chat. Then there's what's called 'the vip room', a section for politics and other sordid topics. This section isn't visible to guests (members only with 100+ posts); IE its not indexed by google and other search engines. This has worked well.....the political banter isn't seen by new members, even in the 'view new posts' link. I run VB 3.8.11, same family as this site....that'd be my suggestion if its really an issue.

The problem with political discussions is the enormous disagreement on the issue of facts, statistics or other empirical data.
So one side accuses the other of falsifying the information & then feelings get hurt & it decays quickly into ad hominem attacks.
You need a referee to supervise the vitriolic exchanges that inevitably take place and so nothing meaningful seems to come of it.

I don't think a billiards site should have a "Politics" section anymore than a political site should have a "Billiards" section.

But if we can make requests, can we get a "Zoo Keeper" section?

You should have kept your displeasure between you and Mike and not made a public spectacle out of it in my opinion. After reading some of the
replies its become evident to me that you were out to turn the rest of the site against those of us who've enjoyed NPR for what it is. After all you didn't post
any examples of what you found that you can't stand anymore so you took no stand except whining. Now this is hater central. What was best left alone, addressed
in NPR or handled between you and Admin is now front pages news and every hater that didn't come to NPR in the first place now has an opinion on how to mess
it up and its all because you posted it in the wrong forum or failed to make your point clear. Why didn't you go directly to Mike? You can't stand up on your own? Maybe
you wanted to mess things up for everyone else? Is that what you need to make you happy? Are you happy now?
