Fields of Green in Iowa

Thousands of pool players gathered at over the last five days to shoot for their best scores in single and team competitions in Iowa in one of the biggest state productions of pool in the industry.

It continues to grow. Numbers are up from last year. Every year seems to get a little bit bigger.

And Guido Orlandi is there. What a gold mine for a cue mechanic! Orlandi travels the country from his home on the upper peninsula of Michigan to serve pool players in tournaments across the country.

He has played pool professionally, served as a referee, tournament director and now a cue repairman. His years as a machinist, glass blower, silversmith, and lapidarist gave him the skills he needed to build his own machine made specifically for cue repair. I like Guido.

Here's a shot of Guido Orlandi and Jimmy Fusco at the Capital City Classic in Philly. I think the year was 2004.

I didn't realize I had so many Guido photos. Here's a good one of a young Danny Harriman, Guido working in the background, and Jose Parica. I think this was also taken in Philly.

Ooh, I forgot to mention this is the 2017 Iowa Operatives of Music and Amusement (IOMA) annual state championship pool tournament.

I don't think ever seen this many tables in on gathering.

I didn't get to make it this year due to having a baby and a house being built, but hopefully I can make it out there next year. It's a good time and the competition is pretty solid regardless of which bracket you are playing in.

That event used to be held here in Davenport at the river center downtown near the river front.
If I recall right there was 150 pool tables in this event.

What a great time and great memories.
