Anyone see this yet.
I watched it.
This was not Martin Scorsese best effort.
The actors spoke in riddles and seemed to not be able to form a sentence.
It just didn't have that Goodfellas,Donnie Brasco or A Bronx tale feel to it.
Not a waste of time to watch it.
I found it to be mediocre at best.
I would give it 3 bags of popcorn out of 5.

I loved it. Watched over 3 sittings. Maybe cuz I’m older now but I really liked the dialogue and the where the story went. Pesci was incredible.

I thought Pacino was excellent...and a new look at Pesci’s talent.

De niro's CGI on his face and eyes looked really bad.

I thought it was a good movie that could have been a little shorter.

Won't watch it

I long ago grew weary of watching De Niro and Pacino movies. To me they are very limited in their performances and have made hundreds of millions of dollars using foul language and glorifying dirt bags. I mean most of the characters they play are similar, just a different story line.

Most of the characters they play are dirt bags and if the "mother fu" phrase was removed from their dialogue how many lines would they have to learn? Pesci is a talent and I wish he would consider doing other characters in movies. He is really the best actor of the three.

I spent to many years around dirt bags at work and view most of them as cowards, liars and cruel selfish manipulators who had a twisted perception of what honor means. That probably gives me a tainted view as a movie critic! LOL

I agree that this new thing is missing some kind of soul
maybe it has something to do with the weird cgi-whatever stuff they did
you gotta experiment for the art to grow, but I'll be honest
even as a big scorcese/de niro/pacino/pesci fan
I didn't get it

Frank Sheeran was a union thug who at various times claimed to have killed everyone from JFK to Hoffa. The book on which this movie was based was itself based on a death-bed confession by Sheeran. Movie, imo, is fairly lame especially when compared to Martin's other org. crime movies. I got thru it but once will be enough.

It’s a really terrific movie that is in very dire need of editing.
There was way too much minutia in the characters’ dialogue.
More time is needed in the cutting room to make this a big hit.

The viewer has to be able to change their perception of things as those things change. Otherwise, there will be a lot lost in translation.

I liked it. It IMO...was just as good as goodfellas, casino and others in line with it but, it isn't a movie that grabs you. It's a movie that allows you to grab it through life's experiences.

Some people can relate at a level that translates complete understanding, while others cannot due to less real life experiences.

To me, movies like the Irishman are movies for a niche crowd, just like casino etc...etc but to an even smaller niche....a niche within a niche.

I was wondering if this thread would pop up. It took me 4 days to watch this film. It's not too long. I'm just older and have less time. My priorities are different now. I remember how I would spend 4-5 hours getting to the film, watching the film and then talking about the film. Now I'd much rather spend that time at the table. This is one of Scorcese's very best films, and Pesci is a gem. The story unfolds beautifully. But I have to ask myself what would my 19 year old self had thought of this film. I think even then, having watched every one of Marty's films prior to Goodfellas, I would have felt that same thrill and elation that usually followed after seeing one of his films.

I actually thought it was quite good.

I seldom watch movies any more and I was surprised that this one kept me interested enough to watch it all.

I am well versed on all the real-life Mafia characters that were referenced in the movie and their demises were accurately documented, especially when Joey Gallo was killed on his birthday in Umberto's Clam House.

They also referenced David Ferrie, a gay pilot, who most people probably never heard of unless they've read up a lot on the Kennedy assassination and the Carlos Marcello mafia family in New Orleans.

I almost didn't watch it because of DeNiro. His acting is not too bad, but I hate his politics in real life. I'd never pay to see him in anything.
