And Then There Were Four

This is a hard one to choose. De Luna has not give-up in him and will fight to the very end.

Patrick Chang is like a quiet dragon, and he may be the dark horse of the event. I can see him rising to the top. He's a very calculated player and has excellent fundamentals.

But Wu-Wu should never be taken lightly. He makes pool look easy, the way he plays. Each shot looks like a piece of cake, when he's running a rack, because he knows exactly where whitey is going. Amazing to watch!

Filler the Killer, though, has won the hearts of many, thanks to his tableside demeanor. Joshua is brilliant and entertaining. He seems to steal the show and the audience approval.

And then there were four. It's the semifinals at the US Open.

• Friday, 9 a.m. Vegas time, 12 noon, Eastern USA time
Joshua Filler (Germany) v. Jeffrey De Luna (Philippines)

• Friday, 9:30 a.m. Vegas time, 12:30 p.m. Eastern USA time
Patrick Chang (Chinese Taipei) v. Wu Jiaqing (China)

World 9-Ball Champion Joshua Filler has got everybody's attention on a global scale. No matter what competition he enters, you can be sure he will rise to the top.

He is the 2018 World 9-Ball Champion, ranked No. 1 by the WPA. Fondly nicknamed Filler the Killer, he's captured the hearts of many with his tableside demeanor. He's not afraid to show emotion and fireworks, and the audience loves every minute of it.

Jeffrey de Luna, 35, became the lone Filipino pool champion remaining after eliminating compatriot and champion Alex Pagulayan, 11-5, on Thursday.

De Luna takes on Germany's Joshua Filler (21 years old), advancing into the semifinals of the $50,000 tourney.

Chang Yu-Lung (Patrick Chang) mounted an epic comeback against Liu Haitao to set up a partypoker US Open 9-Ball Championship semi-final against Wu Jiaqing at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas.

A humble player with determination and quite handsome, he will be one to watch. All of Taiwan is rooting for Patrick to shine in the winner's circle, as are many of his fans around the world.

Wu Jia-qing is no strnger to championship titles. He broke the record books at the age of 16 by winning the World Pool Championhip in 2005, the youngest ever to accomplish this feat. At the age of 30, he's still a strong force on a field of tournament blue.

You'll rarely see him smile when he's in the heat of the battle. Nicknamed "Little Genius," he was raised by his grandmother from the age of 2. Wu began playing eight-ball at the age of 10 at his family-run pool hall. When he became serious about pool, his grandmother would shuttle him from one competition venue to another on her scooter.

It is interesting to note that three of the four players in the semifinals are all left-handed.

Chang Yu-Lung is the only right-handed player.

Patrick Chang reminds me of Curtis Strange of PGA fame...
...nothing spectacular stands out about their game...but in the late 80s, Curtis dominated.
....they are both comfortable in their own skin...and Patrick will have his wins.
....sanity is his guide.

We have a guy in our area who’s starting to be known as “Joshua’s brother”....
...same sunny disposition and encouraged by his family since he could see over a rail.
...hits the ball great...but he just finished his education.
Like Filler, he brings sunshine.

I wish Filler the Killer success in his career...he brings much to the game.

I wish Wu would smile more.
A turbulent life since he was the world’s pool darling at the age of 16.
....a serious illness...could’ve been fatal, i was told...
...estrangement from from his birthplace...although he still retains his ROC papers.

Win or lose, I would like to see some joy in his life.

Wu is probably my favorite player to watch. I'm rooting for him to win this.
