What a great photograph, Mr K... an ingenious and rather beautiful way to welcome in the new year.

Apologies for my recent absence, everyone.

Welcome back, Rubik’s Cube - the PBC thread has felt your absence, sir, and I for one have missed your presence and always generous contributions. So glad to see you back, my friend

The 20-20’s. The standard-setting 21-ball Baseball set by Aramith...a perennial favorite of mine that is always on deck for play and practice....just jumped off the table last night with the passionate purple 20 just waiting to be pocketed and gave me an idea!

I figured the shot was deserving of the New Year moment, so thankfully I have a few Baseball sets in the collection and had the two balls set up and waited for the magical moment.

The champagne came first, however

Cheers, RC

Nice! Your and Rubik’s contributions to AZB are more appreciated than either of you will ever know. Hope your 2020 is off to a good start.

Not to stir the pot again, but the black ball set is really growing on me. Figure I will own a set soon.

I know without hesitation I speak for myself and my dear friend across the Atlantic, Rubik’s Cube, that no finer compliment could be given either of us than the one you’ve just extended, Scratch85.....

Thank you so much for the generous and thoughtful words, sir - which has proven to both of us that the simplest act of sharing our passions with fellow pool players and ball fans around the world will inspire at least a few good folks to join in and share our adventures.

2020 is off to a great start - thank you, Scratch85!

While playing and setting up the 20-20 ball pic last night, I thought a group photo of a few acquisitions this past few months would be both a challenge as well as a fun start to the new year.

I have a fondness for poker ball sets. Especially unused, collectible sets

So why not have a few of them? The colorful Crown Games set of 15 - with liberties taken to add a measles cue ball to fill in the void.

All five sets were quickly set up on standard ball trays side by side and snapped with an iPad Pro. One shot. Cropped and shared.

A royal court to be sure.

Greetings, pool ball experts! Can you please humor me with an identification of this humble set? I don't have it in hand, only have this pic, and can't read the text on the box. Thank you in advance!

Those look to be the basic set from Aramith. Right below the Super Pros in the product line.

That ball set, sir, is the best valued Aramith offering IMO - the Crown Standard set. Grab them while you can.

They are no longer offered or shown on the official Aramith web pages.

The Premier was above that followed by the Premiums and then into the Super Aramith Pro line...then the Tournaments.

The Crown Standards are easy to see and they clean up beautifully. Also, they show nearly zero impact marks or scuffs.

Simply a great ball set.

Also - if memory serves me, head back to post number 526 on 12/11/16 right here in the Pool Ball Collector thread for pics and details on the entire, IN ORDER, Aramith line-up that I shared for comparison and knowledge.

Thanks to all who replied, especially K2K. So, I take it they are somewhat inferior to the Premiers, yet collectable, and that in the pic they appear to be in nice shape?

Thanks,

jv

You’re welcome, sir.

And.....inferior isn’t the word I’d use to compare them to the Premier - which is for the most part, simply a different ball design they came up with to appeal to more traditional folks and how they liked to see their striped balls. The Premier, btw, is the only set that Aramith made a baseball expansion set for.

The Crown Standard set does look to be in fair shape in the pic from what I can tell, sir.

Lastly, I wouldn’t call the Crown Standard set “collectible”, but I will call them one of the most under-appreciated and yet best valued ball sets out there today

Thank you for the reply, K. I believe I understand now.

The other Premier set I have is a 2 1/4" un-numbered snooker set.

I may just pursue these Crown Standards, as well as a Premium set I see locally, at a very good price, and apparently unused, or very lightly used.

I got these over the holidays.

I am color blind. Having said that I know that one wouldn't think that it would make much difference... BUT I played with these over the weekend and I'm serious when I say that the patterns STAND OUT for me. It's almost like a road map.

My brother, who is not color blind, had a bit of difficulty adjusting.

One of the Top 10 best, most versatile ball sets anyone can own, gdc. IMHO.

Was that dear ole Santa that dropped those off or a gift card monies buy . You must have been good this year.

Also - is that an 8-ball I’m seeing there or an all-black, unnumbered ball? That Aramith Casino set “should” have come with a regular numbered 8-ball...however, most gents I know that have that beautiful red/yellow Casino set indeed substitute a plain all-black snooker ball for the 8-ball. It just LOOKS better and seems to fit that set

Mentioning patterns, that set is the FIRST one I’ll pull out for beginning 8-ball players for the exact reason you pointed out - - - the patterns and possibilities are so easy to see!

Great acquisition, sir! Congrats.

Thanks for sharing.

That is indeed a cool set! I wonder, though - if you play eight ball with them, is it not called pocket?

Sure is. CALL POCKET

Gentleman’s game, remember

When we play, you’d call (for example) “middle pocket” and it should be obvious. If in doubt, maybe it’s the friends we should be calling out

Gotcha. But I imagine it might be awkward to describe non-obvious shots.

The particular set I posted, will stay at my home and be used on my home table. By people that I have invited. Having said that, If I can't trust those people enough that there would be a problem, then they won't be back. End of story.

@K2Kraze. Yes that's a numbered 8 ball. I thought the picture looked nicer without that big white "8" being displayed.

I wasn't suggesting there would be a "problem," as in an argument or dispute of any kind. I was suggesting there could be times where you'd have to say "that one over there," and point to it with the cue, or something. That's all.
