Asked me if I ever rode one. Nope.

Wanna try? Yep.

So he showed me everything and I started down the street
slow. I was going to turn left at the first intersection.

Ah. Going too fast so I slowed down in preparation for the
second intersection. Still too fast.

At the third intersection couldn't make the turn and the road
ended. Drove it up into someone's drive.

Turned around, pointed it back at my parent's house.

He was laughing, and said, you do fine on the straightway.

It was fun, but that was my last ride. Way too old now.

Tennis shoes and Bahama shorts!?

I'll never give it up as long as I am physically able to do it. I ride about 20,000 miles a year. Day. Night. Rain. Shine. Hot. Cold. Don't care.

My bike is not a hobby, it's not a sport, it's not an RV. It's a lifestyle.

If you don't take them off shortly they will "eat through" your paint.

Dastardly little demons. Invasive species, like European honey bees and cannabis.

Oops. Sorry, some people like those other invasive species.

Selective environmentalism.

Not about anything.

Sure...I got plenty of racing stripes on my knees and hips.

Sliding on the pavement at 20mph is a whole different world than doing same at 60 though.

There are some nice looking ones in here but as for riding I'll pass given how dangerous they reportedly are.

From there to Applejacks about 12 miles. That section is flat and flowing and closer to Applejacks gets tighter.

Some riders left one day headed to Applejacks. At this time, I’m riding a 95 Ducati 900ss with some loud slipons. I left a few minutes later and was going to catch em before Applejacks.

Well, they were hauling ass........which meant I was really hauling ass to catch them. I was on the gas.......

Pulled into Applejacks just as they were getting off their bikes. Place was packed with bikes and riders. I was standing with my back to the street and was wondering why everyone was looking in my direction.

Well, I turn around to see a sheriff car with his lights on had pulled up behind me. Didn’t take much to figure out who they wanted. Two sheriffs gets out. One asked for my paperwork to run.

The other started to a be little chatting with me, being all friendly. First thing he said was “We heard coming ya before we saw, man I wasnt sure we were gonna make a few of those turns trying to catch ya”. A few more this and that and he slyly asks how fast I thought I was going.

My reply.......”35; the speed limit”. Kinda grins, goes ...no really how fast ya think, seems you were riding quite well.......again my reply..35; the speed limit.

That’s when the friendly face left him. That’s also when his partner came over after running my paperwork, finds nothing on me, hands me my paperwork and says...”We couldnt get a clock on how fast you were going, so don’t be doing the speed limit anymore” Off they go.

A turned around and a huge crowd was out watching all this go down and when they saw I got no ticket, there was a round of applause and a few beers bought for me.

If I had said how fast I was really going, that would have gotten me a ticket. Learned that lesson they hard way.

A speed limit story and a road rash story.

My brudda and I had skipped school on a nice spring day and were just out riding all day in a car back when gas was around twenty-five or thirty cents a gallon, under forty cents for Mobil premium grade! We were on river road not far from where the rednecks scared hell out of peter and dennis and flying low. Something else was flying low too, the chopper that had been patrolling a nearby highway! As in helicopter "chopper". Can't hide from a bear in the air on open road so we pulled over and the bird sat down nearby.

Asked my brother how fast he was going, he couldn't say. The speedometer pegged out at one-twenty but he didn't mention that little detail. Rusty had a genius IQ and occasionally used his noggin. The trooper asked, "About a hundred?" Rusty just shrugged. Eventually they let him go with just a first class ass chewing. That was the day I learned the bears in the air didn't have radar, they had markings all up and down the highway and they clocked your time between markers. No markers on river road!

Anudda brudda spent time at Trippler Medical Center in Hawaii. Every once in awhile somebody was drug in that had lost a bike and went into a pineapple field. Technically just off the road but it gave all new meaning to "roadrash" when somebody hit a pineapple field at speed in shorts and t-shirt! One guy had been really balling, rolled over a hundred feet through a pineapple field. About the only spot without roadrash was his feet or the bottom of them. Low top tennis shoes. That young man stayed in the hospital for many months with only a couple fairly minor broken bones. The risk of infection was huge but I think he lived to tell the tale. Would be odd to write the cause of death to be roadrash!

Pineapple field?!

Even when I lived in the Caribbean I wore jeans, boots, and gloves. In the evening and morning I wore a leather jacket. Couldn't handle the jacket in daytime heat.

You have lived a pampered life Doc.

Having proper gear and all.

Where is the adventure in that?

I bet you even store your instruments in honey after using them.

CORAL is used to make those Highways.
Asphalt, even Concrete is almost OK to slide across, but CORAL, NO, Oh No.
