Advice on a Cuetec Cynergy 15k

I'm looking at getting a Cuetec Cynergy 15k shaft. There's really only one real cue shop around and I don't remember seeing this shaft in the store, so I don't know if I can actually hit it to get a feel.

This is the one I'm looking at:
https://www.seyberts.com/cuetec-cues/cuetec-13-941-cynergy-svb-gen-one-black-cue/

The shaft is $399, which essentially means I'm paying $150 for the butt. I'm not exactly excited about just an all black cue. Do you think I'm better off with the butt paired for this shaft by the manufacturer? Would you look for a $150-175 cue to pair the butt with? Would you stick to orders where you can order them together like this one?

If the choice of a black butt or the one in your second link are the only two choices, then I'd go with the butt in the second link.

The Cynergy shaft can be bought individually with many choices of pin/joints. Don't get hung up on everything having to be Cuetec. There is a plethora of butts to choose from.

Yeh, I'd buy the butt separate, that is just too black and boring for me. Plus, it has SVB's name on it... that is a little corny, at least to me.

honestly, the black shafts only look good with an all black or a butt that has black in it. I see guys with the black shaft on cues and it looks like shit to me. so youll either need a black handle, or a black forearm, or anything that matches. cuetec has been a very good company for a very long time, they've always made a cue that plays well, even though they have a rep for being the inexpensive option. ide personally go with the butt included with the shaft, BUT, just so you know, the width of the collar is smaller on a cuetec than other companies and theyre the only one of two who uses the 3/8x14 pin to my knowledge. the other being scorpion. so youll limit your butt option to cuetecs and scorpions. seyberts has the 1811 cues, get that. uniloc pin, your options will open up. plus I like the 1811 cues look wise.https://www.seyberts.com/cuetec-ct-15-k-carbon-fiber-cue-1811

First of all, I would try it before buying. They are popular, some player around probably has one you can try. I tried one and didn't care for it and I'm used to a carbon fiber shaft. But I think a player would adjust given time. You've seen the other colors too right? Red, white Blue and Walnut.

The one I saw was a complete package, with JP's a weight set and an extension. The finish and workmanship was superior. The extension is important and matches the cue. The entire cue felt great, the butt well mated to the shaft. I just thought the shaft had a hollow sound. I also felt the Sniper tip was too hard for a CF shaft, so that could make a difference.

I agree I don't care for the large Shane signature either, but to me that's not a deal breaker.

Here's an example of a complete package:

Its the sniper tip.

I have 2, one with an ultrasoft black medium, the other with a kamui clear brown soft. Both feel considerably better than the sniper tip.

Of the 2 tips, I like the kamui better. I think the soft tips are where this shaft feels best.

I agree sniper tips suck. but you put an elkmaster tip on there, you put an elkmaster or one piece leather tip on any cue and it plays better. cuemaster98 has an interesting tip hes trying to sell, half full leather, half layered leather. im curious to try it nut I don't pay more than three dollars for a piece of leather the size of a dime.

If you already have a butt, then I would order the shaft only with the correct pin size fitting your current existing butt and go with that. You do not need a Cuetec butt. That's what I did.

If you have to have the shaft, I guess get it.

Personally, I've never played a Cuetec that I liked.

My current cue is a Viking I bought back in '96. It's still in perfect condition, but, at 18 I thought the red looked good. Now, it just looks garish to me. I really don't think it would look good with a black shaft.

That was the only example I could find quickly of one where you can choose the Cynergy 15k shaft with a different butt in the customization. I don't know if this guarantees a better fit than ordering them separate.

I'm not trying to limit myself to a cuetec butt. I'm just looking for advice to make sure they pair up right with no overhang, etc, at the joint. That joint pin suggestions is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. My concern with the 1811 cues is the cocobolo wrap. From the images, that looks like a no-wrap grip. So far, I enjoy leather or linen wraps the most.

I've read that the uni-lock pin has a tendency to loosen up and rattle over time. Thoughts?

I'm trying to get away from the colored butts. My current one is red. I do like the walnut better than the black, but it's sold out on the sites I've checked so far. I haven't seen one I can try in person, either. Apparently Oklahoma doesn't have many options for buying cues. Haven't seen anyone playing one yet in the league my friends signed me up for, but, we only got to play 3 or 4 weeks before everything got shut down.

I have considered the Dakota package, I just don't know if I would use the extension, or how much it should be worth, especially since it locks me into the black butt.

Yeah, I plan on upgrading the tip to a Kamui black or brown soft.

Well, since we all just came into an extra $1200 and my job was "essential" so I didn't miss a paycheck, your doubt is misinformed.

Then, I was looking at a lower price point and having a hard time finding anything in a good LD. Then, all the playing options got shut down by lock-down so it lost urgency AND I didn't want to drop money in uncertain economic conditions.

But, assume what you will.

Here is a review thats not bad.
The threaded end of the shaft is ONE size only: 21.35 mm.
On a normal wood shaft, you could 'feather' the shaft to the butt.
I doubt you can do that with carbon fiber.
Good luck making it fit any other butt except cuetec.
Good luck.
Look for a place to buy that allows returns.
