A question for Mark Griffin or any of the other CSI reps -
Why would any of the US Open events have a limited field?
Do you have a limited amount of tables available? I hear the space is pretty much unlimited.
Is there a limited amount of time? I watched for a bit last year and there seemed to be a lot of down time in between matches. Maybe you could say that if you are the last to register than you get to play your first match (and maybe your second match) at 8AM or Midnight. Use the late registration fee to pay an employee/tournament director to come in early or stay late so they can watch over the match.
To me, I wouldn't limit the field at all if at all possible. Grow pool - grow the fields. It puts more money into the prize pool, more people at the hotel you are supporting. I'd figure out how to make it work.
You don't limit the field for any of the amateur events.
