Holy Shiznits! Have you seen the current player list for this year's WPC in Manila? Screw the IPT, this will undoubtedly be the strongest field ever established in pool history...by far. And with John Schmidt just recently added to this field, you have absolutely everyone that is meant to be there. If the WPC can guarantee this turnout every year, then the WPC should stay in the Philippines.

Wow, what a star-studded field, even a prince! I would have liked to have seen other strong players from CN enter, such as Horsfall, Potier, Gollan, Vidas, and Tourangeau, but I guess most of them needed their funds from the IPT to go, probably. :(

USA have 13 players going? I know for a fact that Gabe is going, and you don't have him on there.

Wouldn't addressing Prince Mahtadee as 'Your Highness' put you at a disadvantage when playing him? ...... lol

I also noticed that Evgeny Stalev (Russia) isn't on the list either.

Hi Rackum,

I don't think you can just go to the WPC if you have the money to do so and feel like going. You have to qualify here in Canada by winning certain tournaments.Players from other countries have to go through a likewise process in their country as well.

I know Gollan won Canada's 9 ball championship and is eligible, however,Horsfall,Potier,Vidas and Tourngeau can't go even if they want to.This is as far as I know, because it is my understanding that the WPC,(unklike the USA Open) has a qualifying process.

Certain seeded players, past champions, runners up etc get automatic re-entry into future WPC's.

There will be 128 total players playing in the 2006 WPC.Since 117 spots are already confirmed ,that leaves 11 more to be filled. The WPC is having 10 qualifying tournaments and the winners of each of those qualifiers will be added to the list. That would bring the total to 127, which would be one short.

Having said all of this, I'm very surprised Canadian champion Brady Gollan's name is not on the list because he has apparently qualified. Also I read here in the forum that John Schmidt (not on list) was also goin.

Go to this link to read about those 10 qualifying tournaments upcoming:

I take it Harold Rousseau from Canada got his spot from last years Canadian championships.
I played him in Laval in September, and I personally think there are stronger players in Canada that could go.
Not to knock his game, he is a very smart and strong player, but if I can nearly knock him off, I'm sure there are a lot of other players that can do one better!!

If Rousseau qualified from last years Canadian championship, perhaps Brady Gollan isn't elegible to play until next years WPC and that is why his name is absent from the list.Does anyone know for sure?

The way I understand it the four Canadian participants are determined by the Canadian Championships and the Stan James Canadian Nine Ball Tour. The top two finishers from each earn their spots. Which would mean that Brady Gollan's win automatically qualifies him a spot in next year's WPC, the runner up would also get a spot. The Stan James tour is currently mid season and the top two from that would obvisouly get spots in next year's WPC as well. I'm not 100% sure of this but I believe this is how it works, the complete WPC qualifying criteria is available somewhere on the net, does anyone know the link?
