Written by Clifford Irving, a well known con man. He wrote a biography of Howard Hughes, allegedly from personal conversations Irving had with him. Turned out Hughes had never even met the man! It was all one big lie, meant to sell a lot of books. Irving went to prison for nearly two years, convicted of fraud and larceny.

Yeah, he did.

Impressed I am.

From Wikipedia:

Perhaps the most famous example of the gambler's fallacy occurred in a game of roulette at the Monte Carlo Casino on August 18, 1913, when the ball fell in black 26 times in a row. This was an extremely uncommon occurrence: the probability of a sequence of either red or black occurring 26 times in a row is (18/37) to the power (26-1) or around 1 in 66.6 million, assuming the mechanism is unbiased. Gamblers lost millions of francs betting against black, reasoning incorrectly that the streak was causing an imbalance in the randomness of the wheel, and that it had to be followed by a long streak of red.[1]

and from the Caesar's Entertainment site:

Think your number or color has to hit soon? The longest recorded streak of one color in roulette in American casino history happened in 1943 when the color red won 32 consecutive times. In a row. The people convinced black had to hit next were absolutely right. Eventually.

That chance is one on two billion, more or less. But how many times has a roulette ball been launched somewhere?

Love the runs. The problem is most folks don't jump on the run, they jump off. Assuming black has to come up next after 7 reds in a row. The wheel has no memory. and the wheel rarely ever goes black, red, black, red, black, red, etc.

So, I always bet the streak :) The longest one ever was 11 for me. After 7 I got nervous and starting making smaller and smaller bets. But, it was still fun and profitable.

and u would be even more insane to try me in pool, I have a question for the foster children mafia. I know bout the art of the deal, art of war, what is the Art of being honest? What ever it is - I'm for sure it has nothing to do with politics in any way shape or form. One poster here said none of us could carry his case ha ha - my record against him speaks for itself. He does not understand me just as much as I don't understand him or his sponsors for that matter. One thing we do have in common is that it has been a life goal of mine in 14.1 to surpass Willie's great 'official' record of 526 - I never did, I too understand the frustration of catching a skid and having run ended to an element that is unexplainable. But I will not support phony claims by govt bearuacrats and their phony political agenda's. Sorry no sell here. Yall keep askin bout my avatar and I will keep asking bout the legitimacy of this effort to try and make legend become fact. The news that is reported bout a subject that I have strong feelings for 14.1 here on az should be call pocket - not pig's rolling in slop aka fake news.

As many times as Danny challenges anyone he's arguing with to gamble at pool with him it's no surprise his avatar is of the "Take On Me" video..."Take on meeeeeeee...take me onnnnnnn..."

Although I'm pretty tired of it, I'll try to offer a bit of perspective.

Some here are butt hurt that John beat Mosconi's official record.

The more important point is this does not detract from Mosconi's position in the world of straight pool. Not one bit. Many, maybe most, would not argue that Mosconi was the greatest straight pool player of all time. I happen to agree with that. Some others would be included in the discussion, such as Greenleaf, Mizerak, Sigel, and a few others. It is debatable, but a legacy.

John's run is a one time thing, very impressive, and he has set the official record. There have been higher runs by others. Exhibition vs practice is the same thing.

Mosconi's position in the world of 14.1 is secure. OK?

All the best,
WW

No one is butt hurt. Your perspective is just as wrong as other's opinions that this was a remarkable attempt at a gold ring hanging in free-air. Just throw some balls on the table and run them off until you reach some preset goal of your own, thereby using your own very variable process to assure that you would eventually reach the ring. There is a correct process to be followed if you or anyone else is going to attempt to increase the 14.1 Straight Pool high run record. Not this BS attempt. Don't continue to expect knowledgeable people to just roll over and play dead.
What is the process?

Lot of fire and brimstone for someone with a 37 post count. Not only what is the process, but what is your point with 14.1 rules, which was the title of your post? Jumped the gun a bit?

All the best,
WW

I guess you have to have a match with a guy in Springfield, Ohio. Run your 150 and out, and then (only with the urging of the crowd, not through any desire of your own to get high so high) you have to continue the run from there. This also must be done in 1950-something, for it to count.

Looks like I may have jumped some really butt hurt rabbits, not the gun. These pros have mostly been playing pool for a number of years and still want someone to explain the rules to them in great detail. The rules are out there and have been a couple of hundred years.
You used the word process, not rules. What is the process that you consider a legitimate run at a record? Someone ran 626 in a row and you suggest it may not count.

What exactly is the process?

I am not a pro...common mistake so don't worry about it.
