We had a pretty good in last nights 8-ball... we won 12-0.
And I guess its in my nature, but I kinda feel bad for the other teams captain (just a little bit). He is new to captaining a team, which became rather obvious, rather quickly.
One of the first things that I do before a match is to look at the roster that I am playing. If its a regular team that we all know, I also start to do a head count, to see who is actually there at the time. Well, if you look at my roster, we have 7-6-5-5-4-3-3-2, and all of us are there except for the 6. (Their captain knows most of our team, so it wasn't a mystery.) I had checked out their potential lineups, they have three 5's, four 4's and a 2. So my plan is to try and manipulate it so that my higher level players play their 5's, and the two 3's that I planned on playing got their 4's and/or the 2.
I go first, I'm a 5, and they throw a 4. OK, so now I'm thinking that one of my 3's will end up having to play one of their 5's, not what I want, so I'm disappointed. I win 2-0.
They throw another 4, this time a brand new player, first match. OK, I play the stronger on my two 3's, she can handle the situation, probably get a point at least, and maybe win. Plus she's good with new players, we like to encourage new folks and make them feel welcome, so it was a good match. (Plus it was hilarious to see. My player just might reach 5 feet tall, and her opponent was a mountain of a man, had to be 6'6" and 350 lbs....plus it turns out that he worked for her when he was a teenager. What a hoot!) She wins 2-0.
Well, now I'm trying to manipulate a favorable match up for the weaker of my 3's, so I throw her next, hoping that they will throw their 2 against her. Their 2 hasn't played a match yet this session, so I expect that they will play her that night. What do they do? They throw another 4, who also hadn't played yet this session. Strange. What was he thinking? Basic math will show you that I've played 5-3-3, so I'm very likely to play 7-5 the rest of the way. (BTW, my 3 won this match, too. Crazy night.)
(Way too) long story short, they throw the 2 in the fourth match, so I play my 5, who runs over her. And my 7 in the last match, gets the team captain, a 5 and a decent shot, but my guy runs over him, too.
I just don't get why he didn't look at my potential matchups for the night, and allow for them? I realize that he wanted to play a few of his players that hadn't played yet this session, but even so, he could have manipulated it far differently, and more effectively. And he left two 5's on the bench, when we were obviously going to play some combination of three out of 7-6-5-5. So I feel a little bad for him. And them.
OK, I'm over it.
