Does the 8 ball have to go clean? Only pertaining to BCAPL rules

Thanks
Rule only says 8ball has to be "legally pocketed" as in called. Doesn't mention kisses, etc. Same goes for all shots in BCA/CSI 8ball. Just have to call the pocket.

No. It has to go in the intended pocket any way it happens to get there.

"Clean" is felt by better players to be a rule for lower-level players who would rather argue than play pool.

"Must go clean" has never been a part of the official rules of any game with the exception of bank pool. In bank pool the first thing the cue ball hits must be the called object ball -- even a rail first is no good. That object ball must not contact any other ball before going into the called pocket after contacting exactly the called cushions in the right order. (Cushion contact right by the pocket is OK -- it's ignored and does not count as a rail contact for the required bank.)

I don't think there is any league (outside of maybe some random in-house league that pays by bar rules) that requires the 8 to go "clean". USAPL is basically the same rule set the world rules are, meaning you call the ball and pocket, does not matter what happens on the way. You can miss the 8, have it go around the table 7 times, hit every other ball on the way, as long as it finally falls in your called pocket, you are good. I've played the 8 "through" another player's ball hanging in the pocket, still good, as long as you make a legal hit and hit the 8 first.

BCA is just "Ball and Pocket" ,

You could be hitting the 8-ball into a pocket 3 inches away, hit it too hard, have it bounce of 6 other balls and 4 other rails and if it finally goes in the called pocket--it is still good--as long as no other fouls transpire.

I think ignoring incidental kisses, etc. is a good example of the rules principle that "less is more". "Clean" or not is a distinction that doesn't much matter, especially as players improve - don't "fix" what ain't broke.
