Has to be a local bylaw. Had this discussion with our league office a couple weeks ago.

No male 2's in 8-ball. Yes, in 9-ball (no male 1's).

Our opponent had a male who was listed as a 2. I called, it was a mistake.

i have a 19 year old boy that just joined my team as a 4/3. he has never played pool in his life. after 3 weeks of straight losing....against 2's and 3's he is now a 2/1.

the thing is no males can play less than a 3/3 in higher level tournaments...such as tri cups and above.

that hurts a team if the player is really no better than a 2/1.

i am gonna go watch our 8 ball ltc finals in a lil while. gotta cheer for my friends team . he is facing the same team i faced last year in the finals and lost to. yea that team goes to vegas every year.

at least we knocked that same team out last year in 9 ball and we went to vegas. it was the 1st time in 5 years that team did not go to vegas in 9 ball from what i heard.

oh yea ...the captain of that team asked me to join his team.
i guess he was impressed with how i play. it would be a good opportunity for me if i wanted to go to vegas practically every year but i cannot abandon my team.

no suprise really...same team that won it last year won again tonight. wish my 3's played as good as his do.:(

oh yea....that captain mentioned again that he would like for me to play for him.

dang its tempting :grin-square: but i cant do that to my g/f and her team.

Can't say I crumbled but it does feel like it.

On Sunday I would say that I was shooing some of my best pool. I was feeling good, making the shots that I have been struggling with and not at all bothered by the handicap I was giving, not till thing stared going down hill anyway.
But about that spot. I can't say that it was unfair cause it always seems to work out just right and the person making it uses a great system that helps to make it accurate. But see the thing is "I" don't feel that I play well enough to be giving up 100 balls.
The race was 134-34, I was steam rolling on my was to 60 with him still under 15 thanks to my ew found mental state, but one to many errors gave him those 2&3 balls here and there and next thing I know I'm talking to myself and watching this game slip away. In the end I lose with just over a rack needed, this was my most emotional loss to date.

Vegas!

After losing the Vegas match 4 years in a row my 9 ball team finally won this weekend. We steamrolled both teams we played winning in 4 matches with not 1 player losing. In the finals we were up 47 to 13 after 3 matches. So it looks like me and my team will be going for the APA Nationals from the 14th to the 18th for 9 ball. This is my first time as Captain or as a player going for the team event. In 2010 the 1st year I joined the league me and my buddy won the 8 ball doubles but I have yet to make it out as a team and am looking forward to it. This is my last year playing APA for my own reasons so it is a nice way to go out! Any other AZ'ers who will be there my team is Sons of Mosconi and I look forward to meeting you.

Played my APA 8-ball travel league last night. Went rack less against a 4. Actually, our whole team played excellently last night. Our 5 showed up and played for the first time since March, and beat their 7. We ended up winning 13-1. Oh, and this team we beat just won LTCs and is going to Vegas! We've never gone farther than 2nd round of Tri cups.

So whether you've been there to play in the NTC or even if you haven't. I know when the LTC's roll around we'll all do our best to qualify, but if you had to make a choice, which tournament would you rather go to play 8 Ball, or 9 Ball?

although i have a better win % in 9 ball i would rather play 8 ball in ltc's or nationals. lately my 8 ball game has improved quite a bit. i hardly ever play safties during regular session but at tri cups or higher i go into defense mode. last weekend during ltc my matches averaged 30 innings with 15 safes per match.

went udefeated .:grin-square:

our team made 9 ball nationals last year where i recorded my 1st skunk ever . it was against another 5 and i won 38-4. they just so happen to not have skunk patches at the nationals.:frown:

I would far prefer 8-ball. It suits my style much better than 9-ball.

Both my teams had a bye last week (a very odd scheduling coincidence) and tonight I played everyone but my 5's and my 2, so I sat out. I'll be playing the majority of our matches, so when I can field a competitive team without me and the other 5 on my team, I take advantage of it. I played 7-6-4-3-3 this week. We got 9 points before the bonus this week, we're good...)

It bugs me that I play 8-ball so much better than 9-ball. Probably because I find safeties far easier in 8-ball than 9-ball. To me. More to work on.

8B.
KK9's never played 8B till he met me & League. as of tonight - he is OUT, of 9B. hates the rankings & wasted time & rules, etc etc.
8B.

(he is not alone in this division - i think 9B is done here in three weeks)

one thing besides playing safes that has really helped my win percentage lately....well it actually falls in the safe category since its not an offensive manuever is leaving balls at each end of the table until i can run out.

i have quit running 5=6 balls an inning and then not having a shot. with a couple of balls to bang around its easier to find some thing to hit if your opponent decides to play safe. also avoids giving your opponent bih...its a killer to give a good player bih.

after missing the last 2 weeks i finally made it to my money league tonight. my apa travel team played down in miss. tonight and per our deal i only play that league when we are at home..other weeks i play money league.

5-3 race....me going to 3.

i win 3-2. my opponent was a hell of a shot maker and had very good ball control. i had to rely of safes to win the match. shoulda been 3-1 but i dogged a long thin cut on the 8 in one rack.

+100000 to this...maybe it is just the playing style like you said. I really should practice 9 ball though since I have regionals coming up in a couple of months that I qualified for somehow.

It's funny, I have played both in Las Vegas and I think I play better 8 ball and so does my team but the 8 Ball Tournament seems so much more intense than the 9 ball. I remember it not being as much fun as the 9 ball. The 9 ball is over a weekend and somehow Las Vegas just seems so much more alive. Over the week of 8 ball it was like by Wednesday I was to the point where I just wanted to go home and as comfortable as the hotel was I just wanted to sleep in my own bed. Both were a really good time, meeting everyone and playing, it was like billiard heaven.
Don't misunderstand me, I'd love to qualify in either (or both) and go compete. As APA players it's what we ascribe to, what we work all year for. But everything considered, if I had to choose I'd much rather go and play 9 ball

oooh! i've got a bunch of questions for yáll after last night, cause we are now in the money! but 1st, i've got to tell yáll 2 things i heard:

- you know that guy who won the BarBox tourney in Reno last month, beating SVB? he lives HERE! and i mean, in our TOWN. i forgot his name. he works at some restaurant in High Point. i need to find him & get a game together w/ KK9.

- remember how Scott Lee was my alternate? and insisted that he be ranked a 10? well i talked w/ the LO last night about it (cause i was playing & needed my ranking backed-down to a 2), and he said: WE COULDN'T RANK HIM AS A 10, CAUSE THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A 10. RODNEY MORRIS IS RANKED A 9. SO WE RANKED HIM A 9.

PL <---- technically ranked as high as Rodney :happydance:

They actually ranked a few players down in NOLA as 10's. They no longer play in the league, but they were ranked higher. Funny, too, because we hardly even have any SL7's, let alone any SL8's or 9's.

We only have a 12 week summer session. We are four weeks into it already and I'm sitting miserably at (1W - 2L). Hopefully I am playing tonight, I don't like riding the bench :frown:

you ever do some thing stupid that you know you should not do ?

this evening i am getting ready to go to napa league. my g/f's son comes in and ask me to check out the truck....he said it was acting funny. i go out and start it up...running ok. i pull out of the drive way and go half a block and the oil light and check engine light both come on.

turn it around and take it home. check the oil and its a quart low. i tell him it should not come on being just a quart low. then he tells me he just put 2 quarts in it before he got home. WTH ???.

i don't see any antifreeze in the top container and start loosening the cap up lil by lil. yea i know ....aint supposed to do that. but i am running late for league and besides ... i popped caps plenty of times before with engines running hot and this motor was not hot.

kept turning lil by lil trying to let pressure off..like i done a hundred times before. WHOOOSH !!!! the cap flies off and hot anti freeze spews all over me. gets my face and left arm....oh yea ....it tastes like shit also.

well i send him to get more oil and anti freeze. i tell him to put it in himself i am going to league. also tell my g/f if he cant check fluids in the thing he don;t need to be driving it. its her vehicle along with the car she has. she bought the truck so her 2 sons have a way to school and work.

any way i get to league. my captain asks whats up with my face and arm all red. i tell him the story. he says dont you know you aint supposed to do that ? then he tells me about the time he did the same thing lol.

he says the co captain on the other team want to face me tonight to knock me out of 1st place points....he is in 3rd. captain says it aint happening.

well my captain throws me 2nd when they throw another player. he wins the lag.

race matrix.

8 ball 5-2 race me going to 5

9 ball 3-3 race

10 ball 4-2 race. me going to 4

their co captain wants to choose 8 ball. the captain says no...he says 8 ball is his best game and i lost 8 ball to him 5-1 last time we played them.

well they choose 10 ball. i win 4-0 and stay in 1st place with 4 weeks left this session.

later my opponent comes up and compliments me on how well i play. i tell him he dont shoot bad but needs to work on cue ball control. he says the way i shoot he did not have a chance no matter what game we played.

i told him 9 ball would have been his best shot against me. he said his team mates did not want him to play me even. i told him 9 ball was still his best chance due to the slop factor.

i told him i have been beat plenty of times by lesser players due to slop. in call your shots its harder for a lesser player to win. i said you slop a ball in playing 9 ball you stay at the table and keep shooting....increasing your chances of winning. i said you slop a ball in during a call your shot game you go sit down increasing your opponents chances of winning.

he said that makes sense. hope he dont choose 9 ball next time we play lol.

After losing my first two matches by a hair, I pulled it together and carried my weight for a win to help my team clinch a spot in the apa masters in Vegas. Finally I'll get a chance to meet some of you guys that will be there, instead of just reading about it for the last several years. One of our players couldn't be there, so this weak link got a little table time in. See ya'all there!

Now.. time to celebrate!

good shooting banks:thumbup:

well i might have one more shot at goin to vegas. yesterday i had a choice between doin some yard work at the house or going to watch our 9 ball ltc's......well you know the answer.

i hopped on my bike and took off.:D while hanging out there a lady whom i have known for years asked me if i was playing in the jack and jill qualifier in a few weeks. i told her no. she said she would like to talk to me at league tonight about she and i entering it.

well i got 2 conversations this weekend about the the qualifier. one with this lady who i fell we got a good chance at winning the qualifier. her and her son came in 2nd iirc in the scotch doubles in vegas last year.

and the other conversation with my g/f.about the possibility of me and this lady going to vegas.
