tonight i faced a 3 in 9 ball....i won 38-22. it was one of those matches where my break was not working and he was leaving me hooked when he missed. it was hard to not get frustrated but i managed to keep my head together and just play what the table gave me.

i faced a pretty straight shooting 5 in 8 ball. i thought i could not out shoot him so i would out think him. i played a shit load of safes and won 4-2. i do not normally try this hard to win on a week night because the match drags on forever. it went 36 innings with me playing 15 safes. it almost got to where i dreaded every time i played safe. he used up all his time outs and thought forever on how to get out of each safe i played.

i played the last match and it was 12: 30 when we got through. the 4th match was over at 10:30. think i am gonna go back to trying to run out during the week and save my defense for playoffs and such. i am still keyed up from my match and its gonna be hard falling asleep and gotta get up and go to work in the morning. .... do you fellas ever have this problem after a grueling match ?

I know how what you mean lorider. Many times on Wednesday I don't make it home til 1am, and then am amped up and in "pool mode" and have trouble sleeping due to rerunning my match in my mind.

Last night only got to shoot 9, played another 6 and won 48-34. He should prob be a 5, but it wouldn't have mattered. I'm trending toward moving to a 7. I'm on a 10 match win streak combining 8 and 9. Won my first match as a 7 in 8 ball last Thursday. Tonight I may get to play a 7,9 in 8 and test my skills against one of the top 3 in the bar.

Yep, same here, sucks on an opening shift.

Only played 8 ball this week, played a 4 and won 2-0 though he handed it to me... he made an early 8 in the first inning of game 1, went back and forth a bit of thanks to some clusters in game 2 then I got ball in hand on the 8 ball. I haven't lost as a 3 in 8 ball this session, I've won 1 match as a 5 in 9 ball. My aim has been off since my lesson so I'm sweating Monday to see if I get to play minimania as a 3 in Vegas, don't think I could hang with the 'super 4's' right now.

A 3 in 8 and a 5 in 9 ? Very seldom do you see a 2 level skill difference in formats.

Well I once was a 6 in 8 and a 4 in 9 for lil while. Was a 6 in 9 for a lil while and then j faced reality and am a 5 in both now :grin-square:

I think I'm overranked as a 5, its been a tough session for me in 9 ball. It's going to be interesting in Vegas, not expecting to do very well on the 9 ball mini's but I'll play a couple for the experience.

I'm doing pretty well this session.

Im a 6 in APA 8ball, won 7 of 9 matches so far, lowest rank i have played all session was a 6.
Im a 7 in APA 9ball, won 8 of 10 matches, played one 6 this session which beat me (46 to 53 in 9 innings), the rest of my matches were 7-9.

I am a 5 in TAP 8ball and won 5 of 6 matches.

Finished 8-ball summer session 6-1. Best session ever, and dedicated to my recently late brother.

9-ball I didn't do so well.

Got another 6-0 rackless in 8. Only one break and run but had a couple of carom scratches. Bad rolls. 15-5 in 9 against a 4. 75-17.
All I can say is GO GET YOUR STROKE ASSESSED. Thank you Scott Lee. Totally under control of the cue. I had two other 9's watching my match and complimenting the outs. Everyone can get better.

So your a 7 in 8ball and a 9 in 9ball... Such a shame you are crushing low ranked players. I for one will never play a low rank just for points. I like to be pushed, even if I could play and the other team doesnt have a 6 or higher, I'll just play my lower ranks against them.

I get my action on the weekends.. so its their night to have fun.

Most of the time in APA its out of the higher levels hands on who they play. For me personally I have been ducked multiple times by the highest level player on the other team. I always want to play the best, that just sometimes doesn't happen. It all depends on who throws who etc.

Their high ranked player was out of town and that was thief only line up. I am 10-0 in 8 against all ranks. 7-2 in 9 and that includes both of the other nines. My weekends are taken up by my kids games

I hear ya, Now if i throw myself up and they decide to try an throw off on me, I take it as my personal job to crush them. I hate when higher ranks duck each other, lol

My captain will often throw a 2 or 3 up against their 6-7-8 as a strategy. I don't care for that much if we have comparable strength on the bench. I've only been playing a few sessions of APA. I'm a 4/5 with over 70% combined 8/9 ball wins, trying to get better. I get the idea is to win points and matches and work within the "23 rule". Still, I much prefer when the higher ranks play each other, or when I play an equal or higher rank. My goal against higher ranks is to get to my 31 before they do. Done it a few times, probably move to a 5 soon in 9ball...

I think as a captain if you have a 7 and the other team has a 7 you'd like to be sure that your 7 can beat there's. I don't ever want to waste my best player just to try to be bold and match up if it's not to my team's advantage, and you have to take into account what the most difficult race is for the S/L 7. If I have a hot shooting 4 I have found that to be the best for me to spring on their 7. Then my 7 gets one of their 5's or 6's if I can. As higher rated players I know we'd almost always rather match up, but that's not always to my teams advantage

Yes I understand that, but he'll consistently throw a 2 in against their 6 or 7 hoping our player will luck into 19 balls. He's never "hot", but a nice guy. It may playing/matching up to win, but seems off to me. It's not taking any of my playing time away so it isn't that.

if you know that 2 is weak and he can luck in some balls, then he could get your team 5-8 points just getting close. It is all strategy. I prefer to throw myself on the other teams best player, just so my team mates won't have to worry about trying to match up against them. Some of them do try and duck me, but for the most part they won't because throwing a low rank against me is suicide because of my defensive ability and kicking prowess. If i play a 2, it may not be pretty, but i will make what i can, then duck or leave them a bank... last team to throw a 2 on me was last session, it was my first 20-0 game as a 7.

Havent posted in awhile here, so I'll try to keep it as brief as possible:

In TAP, my 8-Ball team won Regional's to go to TAP Nationals in Nashville this year :)clapping:)..

This was the first time we will be playing in the National even for 8-Ball (4 sessions played now I believe), but the core of the team has played in National for 9-Ball 2 of the last 3 years (Charleston S.C., losing in the round before the Semi-Finals, and Chicago, where we lost in the semi-finals to the team that ended up winning it.)

The resort looks AMAZING, and we cant wait to go have some fun there!!

I just finished up my first session of APA 8-Ball last week (playing for my best friends place, out of my area, but where I grew up).

Had fun, and finished 8-0 on the shortened summer session (our team had 2 byes).
Ended up with a 40-5 record in games, beating (6) 6's, (1) 5, and (1) 4. Also took the top spot in the Top Tier - Top Gun thing

The difference between TAP and APA (at least in the divisions I play(ed) in) is amazingly stark..

Im fairly confident that Im far and away the top player in the APA division, but Im honestly the 4th best player on my TAP TEAM for 8-ball
Probably barely only in the top 10 players in the league..

In our Local league(BCBC), we won 1st in the regular season, AND 1st in the playoff session. It was the first time a team has been able to pull that off, and we were pretty proud of our accomplishment.

I think we end up winning around $1500 for the regular season (playoffs is just for a large trophy).

This is a pretty large league, with 24 teams and over 200 players in a fairly small area radius (maybe 10-12 miles total radius). But its the best run league around, and CRUSHES APA and TAP COMBINED as far as the amount of players participating in it.. Very good league

I think some leagues may be stronger in certain areas than others. Not meant as a slight, but where I am TAP has no foothold at all. I tried to join as a change of pace, different night, different league etc. and there really wasn't much going on.

It is all based on your location. Some leagues base it on your division, most League operators have multiple divisions, so it is based on the divisions he owns in your area. My area we have about 12 9ball divisions and the same in 8ball.

So the stronger your 9's and 8's are in your area/region, the stronger your ranks will be.

To that I have no doubt...

I know when we go to Nationals for TAP, there are teams that are so out matched that its not even funny.

I actually feel bad for some of the teams because TAP Nationals (and every location in my local TAP league) use's Diamond tables, and for a lot of these teams its the first time they've ever played on a Diamond. They are carrying (over inflated) handicaps from playing on 5" big pocket Valley's and Dymamo tables, and just cannot get used to the speed of the Simonis Cloth, the way Diamonds bank, and the tight pockets.. Huge difference.

I also looked at the 3 closest APA leagues near where I live, just to see the caliber of players in each.

2 of the leagues were just as bad as the one I play in, and I do not mean that to sound the way it does, but... There is one around here that has quite a few decent players in it. It had I think (5) APA 8-ball 7's in it, and at least (2) APA 6's that I know must be sandbagging, because they should be APA 7's all day long. I know every one of those guys because all but one of them play in our local BCBC 8-ball league (the other guy used to at one time as well)..

I do agree though, that league skill levels will vary greatly..
