Classic British understatement. :grin:... whereas Mosconi was more raucous.
I was at York Hall twice -- amazing. In a way it's too bad they had to move to Alexandra Palace which has more seats and less reverberation.
But as to the OP, I think that if you really want to be close to the players a lot of the tournaments will work, except that single-table events like the Mosconi Cup don't let you get that close to the table.
The first three days of the US Open 9 Ball (Mandalay Bay) when they have 32 tables running and not that many spectators will let you have a front row seat to watch all the champions you have heard about. During the one-table part -- last three days -- you will still have pretty good seats but will be back 40 feet. You will have TV monitors to catch the closeups and different angles, though.
The Derby City Classic is a 5-ring circus and you get to sit on one of the rings. You might have to occasionally move to get out of the way of a shot. The main downside is you're stuck in the middle of nowhere if you don't have a car. Or maybe that's a feature.
