Snakewood question

I was told working with snakewood can be very costly as it has a tendency to crack / break easily. Is this a wood you should not cut points into? Can someone please provide me with some do's and don'ts?

I do appreciate any positive input.

No personal experience with it of any kind. Read some stuff. Dave B would be a good resource. I've seen him state he would inspect blanks with a loupe or something and feel confident with pieces that had no checks whatsoever. That would make it hard to source. Saw a long time ago someone suggesting they freeze it prior to working. Too much heat causes big problems apparently.

I like snakewood for inlays and points, but not so much for forearms and structural parts. I used to keep a pickle jar full of nelsonite to soak sw inlay slabs and bored out butt sleeves for a day or so before using. I never had any that I did that way crack.
