A friend of mine broke his Bk3 for the second time. His layered leather tip chipped on a bad break shot and I offered to replace it with a Samsara.
When I chucked it up and went to cut off the old tip, to my chagrin the whole tip flew off along with the plate that is connected to the ferrule. Underneath was a gummy substance filling the hallow ferrule.
I'm not sure that the silencer pad was the original, and that this is the usual material that is supposed to be behind the pad (it had been repaired by someone else previously). I scraped it out as best as I could, and behind the gum was a soft base that had a lot of give. I've heard many Pred shafts have a foam pad to keep glue from seeping down into the hole.
I know already about this kind of work voiding the warranty, he just wants it fixed so it is in usable shape.
Gentlemen, how have you dealt with this situation in your many encounters? I have an idea for repair, but would like to see if I am on the same page as others.
