Just an oversight. In the 1980's, only Sigel was better at 14.1 than Varner. My bad.
Don't let it happen again lol , I don't know what it is about him that he is often overlooked and he's won just about everything in his day

Yep.
Kinda like the Grandmother that smoked 2 packs of cigarettes everyday and lived to be 100.
Some nit is going to bring up the Grandmother....LOL
Ken
Nick Varner is always overlooked in these conversations, he has 2 world 14-1 championships

Varner was a monster at all games.
Lou Figueroa
Not to mention he's pretty strong playing for the cash and he's not afraid. I've seen him go at it with Ramil Gallego and Jack Cooney to name a few. Good all around player
Exactly! I saw him in an expensive One Pocket match against a "specialist" and John just tortured him....all the while complimenting how good the guy played, LOL. Then trying to set up a follow-up match for the next day. As we all know, there are levels to this game...
John won the DCC 1-pocket tournament. He isn't a 1 pocket specialist, and frankly, IMO, that was his best win.
Take most other players who are 14.1 or 9/10 ball players and see how they doing playing 1 pocket. Also take a great 1-pocket players and IMO, they are normally not tops anywhere else.

Ken
Well Ken, i don't think you theory holds up about 1P players. If you look at the winners of the DCC 1P over the years, you have the likes of:
Efren
Varner
Hall
Joyner
Parica
Owen
Schmidt
Frost
Corey
Busty
Alex
Shane
Thorpe
They all played strong in other games.
Still, for the most part a pretty elite group of players. The point was that "most" players don't excel at 1P and other games, and that remains fairly accurate.

It must be frustrating for Mike to do the impossible task of keeping Player records for anyone and everyone who has ever finished in the money in even a regional event and then have a regular on the site ask this kind of question
