I'm just giggling about how this has brought you back, at least for time :p

It's rather welcome, of course

Sadly, it's just reminding me why I left. Used to have the energy to go back and forth with these types, which always ended the same way -- the troll gets triggered, goes off and gets banned, and I walk away with that empty feeling that, although victorious, I didn't accomplish any good; it was an anonymous account anyway.

So I post positive stuff, like the rare video of Willie Mosconi playing snooker. And you're familiar with my social media content.

Fulfillment these days comes from keeping my game sharp; not just pool, but work fulfillment -- both I.T. security as well as the arborist / tree surgeon chops. And of course, the great outdoors -- my wife and I enjoying beautiful Maine with the doggies! (Already firming up the plans for this year's September trip, btw; won't be long, and see you soon!)

Forum admins have been doing that for many, many years. Some clever individuals come up with ways around that at surface level, but are eventually found out.

Yeah i saw something about it but .. let me see...

Well there is a bigger problem that needs to be solved here anyways. As a security consultant I know whats up.. As the poor guy dealing with one of these on the back end for 15 idk. forever years. I know exactly whats up -a surprise I'm sure.

and if an admin reads this.. I can help. it's what I do.

That might be even a little ballsy for me even.. There are issues.

Regular forum posters here are used to it, and we may as well get some chuckles when it becomes (apparently) obvious. We've been playing "spot the troll" for a long time...whether you are a contestant or not remains to be seen. Tho many are prolific and spout some rather contentious points of view. Thus, you meet the initial criteria.

Have fun. You've paid for a membership, that a cool thing, supporting the site.

What made me become obsessive about pool included a masters class in avoiding arguments. Just no.

I am not tainted with all the years of pool drama. for example. Alex Higgins. They got the blow by blow story and I got the 60 minute tribute. I heard he ripped off his tie and it was just bad. I don't understand the story yet though.. and then there are those news stories I can't read. jump to 2019. He was a "bad boy". So what, he's cool.

Earl. You lived it and I have seen bits and pieces plus a 60 minute tribute. Umm.. So? Maybe if your working on your League game. Otherwise who's surfing the earl videos? Serious bangers and Players and they are already in so who cares.

So pool has a history. "There are people that are really good and won't tell you and try to take your money".

Hey the casino down the road has a building full of machines that entice you to think you can win lot's of money and they pretty much end up taking whatever your willing to play with. People still go there in masses. They would have better luck playing a pool shark that might make a mistake.

<plan snip>

Jump to 2019 where you have to worry about people stealing your identity, money, house, passwords, bla bla bla. If somebody walks into a pool hall to test their skills or luck they know full well somebody in there that can actually play the game. At least with a hustler you have a chance.

So yes I have the view of an old Mosconi fan that sees things more like the people the game wants to attract.

sorry that membership wasn't going sooner. I setup something originally but I didn't get approved for over a month and I went through pay pal and it was turned on. IDK.

Good afternoon, Mr B. :)

I had a few run ins with Alex Higgins in the 1980s, even played pool against him a couple of times. He was wonderful to watch on the snooker table, probably my all time favourite player in terms of excitement and entertainment. I have him down as one of the greats of the game.

Off the table he was an absolute nightmare, just horrible to be around at times. To be frank, he was a damned nuisance.

Best wishes,
RC.

Anyways..

I was on the road yesterday and much of today, so I just now saw it. Your PM to me was merely a copy of your reply post on that thread that got deleted -- the reply post of which I saw, btw -- so I'm not sure why you're resending it to me. You didn't adequately address the points I brought up -- mainly, the triviality of your claim that caffeine drinks are somehow "juicing" (and yes, you made that assertion directly with a "that's not Olympic behavior" capper -- there are no innuendos or misunderstandings here whatsoever).

So you seem to be going around in circles -- first, a charge of "juicing" against John Schmidt which you were resoundingly rebuffed on in your original (now-deleted) thread. Then, in that same now-deleted thread, you replied with a link that defines "juicing" -- which was very specific about "juicing" being anabolic steroids -- therefore being very obvious that you were back-pedaling. Now, you've PM'ed me a copy of a reply post in that now-deleted thread where you danced around the charges I pointed out.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here. To be perfectly clear, love-Mosconi-and-dislike-Schmidt or not, accusing John of "juicing," or putting energy and vitamin B12 booster drinks in the same class as anabolic steroids, HGH, Creatine, or any of the other performance-boosting chemicals that athletes are getting busted on in blood and urine tests, is an absolute RIDICULOUS assertion. Full stop.

Thank you, though, for purchasing a membership here. At least that shows you're not a single-digit/teens postcount troll here merely to stir the sh*t and be gone the next day or week.

Ok.. I see what your talking about. first the 5-hour. His admission, not mine. The contents are unregulated and third party tests found problems with whats in it compared to as advertised. which matched items on the multiple lists maintained by the doping people. I found matching items. B12 only gives an energy boost if you have a deficiency and he is not a likely candidate for that. Caffeine, yep moved to monitoring as in if you win and then tested you can have a reasonable amount, however at some level they can get upset and strip the win. To the best of my knowledge. 5-hour has a lot of stuff to get you going, That list was pretty good. Just Bad and no back-pedal on it or on the testing that should of been done.

Juicing. geese.. not using that word anymore for one due to additional meanings. Do I think he was using them? I'm just not expert enough to say without seeing him more often. If given the choice of testing him. I would. Would they help his pool game. sure, tone muscles work better and they help with growth. You don't need to look like a weightlifter to use them. After seeing the doping list and how big it is, there are a lot of other things that are restricted and must make you think better.

I'm a little behind in the information verification area and I wanted to verify what I remembered was correct today. This is a person we are talking about. Using 5-hour style drinks to help your game in not OK with me. I don't want to see this as an acceptable thing by any means as it makes a joke out of the game and hurts it's future outlook. IMHO. I didn't and still don't want to be making flawed allegations.

If you look at his Facebook and so on you can decide for yourself. The side effects include premature hair loss, (could be age and stress) breast development (He just got married), Splayed teeth, (maybe but can't tell for sure) and overgrowth of the forehead (looking at photos maybe), and acne. I did see bumps but hard to tell and I'm not spending hours looking for bumps on some dudes face. Those 2 front teeth aren't looking the greatest.

Something this important should be regulated so another round of "No he cheated and you really won but were robbed of your celebration, earnings, etc, etc, to bad" bike drama. these things really need to be tested more in this day and age.

Testing should be a requirement for all records today.

Hey here's a fun thought. He needed all this doping so he could make big runs when he wanted but he was actually hustling us into believing it was hard so he needed to play in his own hall and just capture it on video with nobody ever knowing. Now you might wonder.. could he of hit more? Is he holding back? Can he run as many as he want's? Can I have this problem please?

Anyways.. Not Back Pedal... Not a victory... nuff by me said.. I have other things to work on like this new cue.

Guy I know runs marathons. He loads up on carbs the night before to help with his energy levels. Maybe pasta should be on the dodgy substances lists.

If it's disrespectful attempting to break john's record, it was disrespectful of John to break mosconi's record, right?

The new record is fair game to beat but your messaging will be judged against you in the court of public opinion.

If you posture as, “WOW! I didn’t think that could be beat. John inspired me to try too. This will be tough.” Then good for you.

If you posture as, “John Schmidt?!? Pffft. He’s a has-been. He’s a nit. The only reason he’s getting attention is because he chased a record nobody cared about because nobody plays 14.1 anymore. Watch this. Hold my beer...”. Then it is highly disrespectful.

Keep in mind people aren’t dumb. We can read between the lines of what’s said and what’s implied.

I think anyone who seriously tries to run 627 will find out in the first couple of weeks that it's not so easy. I think there are five or six players capable of playing 14.1 that well. It's not clear how tenacious they can be in pursuit of the goal.

The best players with conducive conditions will need about 1000 tries on average assuming they're immune to the pressure after they pass 500. And they will probably have run 500s three or four times -- and missed -- before they do a 627. John "got lucky" to run a 600 with no 500s. I think his first 400 was made without having done any 300s.

I'm guessing that the first player who mounts a serious attempt will give up after a couple of weeks.

Anyone who barks (specifically during John’s 15 minutes of fame) BEFORE testing their commitment to attempting are likely not well intentioned.
