Not to be confused with the smaller Japan Open, this very old event (probably oldest annual pool event of this size in world) used to be 9 ball for Men but switched to 10 ball earlier this decade (Women's event still 9 ball). Less prestigious than before but still attracts all the top Asians. Some top Euros and Shane used to play in past but this year main Euro representation Thorsten, Mika
Field includes 7x800s (6 in top 10 Fargo) but only about 14 Top 50 Fargo

Raphael won his first match 9-8 over Toshiyuki Haraguchi. He plays Sharik Sayed next.

This is one of my favorite events.
Get to see alot of asian and middle eastern
players that don't travel much.
10 ball
Green cloth
Winner breaks
Rack glued to the cloth to speed it up
No unnecessary commentary

The Japanese, they get me.

This is the best tournament I’ve seen “to learn the game”.

-Fixed camera angle so you see the layout.
-good pic quality
-No commentary to distract
-sound of balls and play.
-top level players

This is the way to learn pattern play IMO.

I notice very few Japanese players winning matches. The Chinese and Filipinos are the dominant players in this field.

It’s a classic case of the locals meeting the road players...bet on the road players.

I’ve always liked Takahashi’s game...but it has slipped a lot.

In the round of 64, USA's only entrant, Raphael Dabreo, lost to Norio Ogawa 11-6.

So Raga beat Wu and plays big Ko in about 3 hours. Ugh -- too late for me.

:cool:Anton Raga beat big Ko 11-2 and is now in the final 8. Next round (quarterfinals) starts at 8 pm US EST tonight with semis and finals at 11 pm and 2 am respectively. Last round they featured the last Japanese player match but I hope they put the Raga vs Wu Kun Lin match on the tv table this time.
