You played it correctly. You could also hit a stripe into a solid to make a solid, since it's still open. Forcing the other player into a bad spot right away can work well, too.
I pulled that same move last night. I figured, for an APA 6, he wouldn't be so dumb to shoot at it, but he did and had no possible out.
On another topic, this happened before league last night, around 3pm. A player from another home team was scoping me out while I was killing time; Older guy (late 60's) plays as a SL3, but sandbags bad.
I rattled a ball and he comes up to me and says,
"You know, you shoot way too hard. If you hold your cue closer to here *puts his back hand about an inch from the joint*. Then you wouldn't hit them so hard. Ya know, when you hold the cue so far back, you're gonna hit it hard every time."
I tried not to laugh, but the inner a-hole in me blurted out,
"No offense, but you are full of S#%@... Here, let me show you something."
I briskly walked over to my case, got my extension out, screwed it on (making my cue 65" long), proceeded to walk over to the table, and run out the rest of the rack shooting every shot slow as humanly possible.
Have you met this type of guy before? I've met at least three in the past two weeks.
Oh, and they just started a "Straight 8" league. You should see the rules... :rotflmao:
