Thinking about a Mezz Cue

Feedback appreciated....I'm considering this cue-

https://www.seyberts.com/mezz-axip-purple-heart-cue

It comes with the W700 shaft.

Strictly from a play ability standpoint ...How does it play compared to others in this price range? Also I'm going to buy their extension also. Which is the reason for the cue in the first place.I'm tired of reaching for shots and using the bridge.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

I've got a plain Mezz (EC7) and love it. Simple looking but nothing better imo from a playability standpoint (at least for me!). Dont have the extension but i want to buy one eventually. Note: using the extension is unlikely to make you able to reach every shot - just putting it out there.

Don't own a Mezz, but I would own that one in a heartbeat if I was looking to buy a playing cue. Purpleheart plays stiff, but they put a Kamui soft tip on it (which will probably play like a medium tip)so I'm betting that's gonna be a solid player.

Nice choice!

I’m loving my mezz axi r, top notch quality. Seyberts sent mine with a curly maple shaft. Extension is very nice, easier to work middle long table shots. Don’t have to use the bridge as much. I would post pics but it’s always rejecting attachment photos from my phone now.

All Mezz cues are either cored, or made from a laminated wood. The Purpleheart is sleeved onto a tapered maple core, in the Axi series. All of the butts from the series hit pretty much the same, regardless of the outer wood choice.

I have some decent production cues and some customs. I've heard good things about Mezz though, enough that I'm considering buying one to try out.
They seem to have a decent resale value. I have tried their break cues and liked them. I'd go for it.

Mezz cues is about the best production cues you can buy. They have several different shafts, but the WX700 wich comes stock with most of their cues have a great feel to it, resonable deflection. Fit and finish is always top notch with Mezz.

I have an EC-7 cue with the 4”extension and love it. Played for 30+ years with a McDermid d-19.

The Mezz hits super solid and the balance is nice with the extension on. My logic is that if I cannot reach a shot with this extension, then bridge time. I used to use a long slip-on extension, but frankly never felt comfortable stroking with it.

Hard to beat a Mezz cue. I've got a Mezz Sneaky Pete (MSP) model, bocote, wrapless. Simple, but stunningly beautiful. If you can possibly upgrade to a Mezz EXPro shaft with it, then you'll really be set with the best feeling super low deflection shaft on the market today, in my opinion.

As for extensions, the 8-inch extension works great although certainly on the pricey side compared to other manufacturers extenders. I can tell you that even with the 8-inch extension, you need to learn to use a bridge stick to the point of being comfortable with it. I'm 6'5", and even playing with a 61" cue and adding the 8-inch extender, there are sometimes still shots I cannot reach and need to use a bridge stick, when playing on a 9-foot table.

Does Mezz make any stainless steel jointed cues? Or are all of their cues that wood to wood, or wood to phenolic joint with the big pin?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm torn between these two.

I really like the stainless joint on the top one. Decisions decisions......

Both of those cues look sweet. You can't go wrong here. I would probably go with the shaft upgrade but I really love the look of the purpleheart cue.

Whatever you choose....don't let anyone's opinion on this thread sway your decision.

With the entire Mezz cue line, it's all personal preference in regards to the look that appeals to you - they are all high quality. The only differences are the type of joints - united or wavy, and which particular Mezz shaft you choose to go with.

there will be new series of Ace cues coming out nearer to the end of the year, but I dont think those are merry widows.

Maniac pointed out the difference in shafts, which i agree u should think about. the wx700 is their baseline low deflection shaft while the alpha is closer to a standard maple shaft. if you like a standard maple shaft with slight low deflection properties that'll be Alpha. if u want something closer to the 314 that'll be wx700... The wx900 is their equivalent of a Z

Mezz has two pins. The Wavy wich is a big 9TPI pin and the United Joint wich is a piloted 5/16-14 quick release joint. None of the Mezz cues have any sort of capped joint, they are all wood to wood.

The Mezz United joint is really really tight. That last 2 turned to put it in place are really tough.

I do have to say. I love my Mezz. The OP will not be disappointed in them at all.

I'll second the statement that the united joint is very tight, never any issue with it loosening up.

Love my Mezz EC7. Yes the United joint is very tight. I love the feel of the WX700. Hits hard and plenty of feedback. You will NEVER need another cue if you go with a Mezz.

Just don't get caught up in all that fancy tip crap. Buy a triangle, milkdud or elkmaster and shoot away.
