Episode 5 is a short 4 1/2 min video of John Schmidt practicing in the TAR Room. This video goes more to the ambiance of the Derby. I"ll set it up for you.... It's Sat night about 1:10 in the morning and I had just came from the upstairs tournament room, where I had been standing up in the middle of a huge crowd taping some of the SVB/Scooter match. The TAR room is basically right across the hall and I wandered in there to relax for a minute.
There wasn't many people in there, because everyone was across the hall. John Schmidt was in there practicing and I was really enjoying watching him. I set up my camcorder and started taping. Right then a cool song came on (TAR has great tunes in their room). John seemed to be loose and having some fun practicing and I was enjoying the mixture of tunes and him practicing.
His manner at the table was interesting to observe. He bends his legs in his stance, he is very deliberate and his grip and stroke was cool to watch. The little pinkie prominently pointed downward, draws your attention to it. His stroke is very relaxed and smooth.
Anyways, nothing spectacular here, just picture in your mind, across the hall is chaos, with a couple of hundred people crowded around one table and then a few steps away, in a small room with some great tunes playing, is another champion just having a few moments of practice.
That's the Derby, something happening everywhere, at all hours.
