Has the Look of a :

Gandy or National

Most Nationals had the Aluminum in the joint area but not all.

I would say from early 1970's to early 1980.

Hope this helps but I dont have any of the old catalogs

Gandy or National maybe.

When I first saw that on Ebay I noticed the messed up veneers at the base of the points. Cool cue but the veneer issue turned me off.

Pre-catalog Palmer model 3 custom

Getting it back tomorrow from Scot at Proficient Billiards. From the photos it looks like it turned out beautifully! Nice pre-catalog Palmer model 3 custom.

Thanks. Where can I find pre-catalog info and photos?

ClassicCues / Joe Van Buren posted a copy of the real 1st catalog flyer somewhere here on AZ as well as on ClassicCues.com. The only reason it is now called the pre-catalog is because it wasn't made known until after Palmer followers were already referring to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Catalogs as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Catalogs.

Some Palmers are unquestionably Pre-Catalog examples, others are difficult to differentiate, the 1st Catalog Model 3 and Pre-Catalog Model F being one that is almost identical to those shown in each of the two catalogs. Regardless, and without question, your cue is a very early Palmer.

Spectacular!

I am sorry I passed on that one now! Really kicking myself!

Well, at least I know a little more about identifying an early Palmer. If nothing else, it's an education.
