thanks to everyone - except KEVIN.
;)

this league is brand new - i mean BRAND new. and this LO came out of NOwhere. none of us know him. it's been good for our pool hall (i haven't seen this many people in the room since 1999!). and he's brought players from i don't know-where.

but i'm going to keep an eye on him, from now on.

so tell me again - is rack mechanics acceptable?

(maybe i should get ATLARGE involved in his sink/break stats)

Intentional rack mechanics is bad, though I have no idea how to confront someone who you think is doing it.

Absolutely not!!! In fact I have coached our team's players on many occasions to make intentional fouls tying up the other player's object balls, sink the other player's balls to take away ducks or to simply pick up the cue ball and hand it to the opponent if this creates the highest percentage likelihood for you to win the game. There is nothing in the rules that states you cannot do this.

yep, i've coached my team to do the same... i like the move. even if there is a break out ball nearby, they still gotta get a decent roll afterwards :)

Guess I opened the "Defense" can-o-worms. The S/L3 that dint have a clue had a penchant for either locking me up behind a ball close to center table, OR he jammed me between one of his balls and and a rail. At first I thought it was coincidental, but he did it 8-9 times. He had good ball speed, just no aim ! That's why it was safety practice. I knew he couldn't kick out of a safe, so it was more than a good chance for me to get BIH. Play the ODDS baybee !

Recently, it was 10 ball & 9 ball matches. I won both with good shot making and a few 2-way shots executed well. Last match I narrowly won (2 pts in 9-ball APA) My opp and I both sukkkkked ! :embarrassed2: I was down 17 balls; started layin' them "safes" down ! That gave me the chance to come back and get ahold of the situation.

FWIW : I've been in "safety battles" going 10-12 innings at times. My opp and I were just waiting for the 1st mistake so we could run-out. Those are the exciting/dissappointing matches!
FWIW 2 : Yes, I'll do an intentional foul. Sometimes its the only likely answer. I figure the other team if in my shoes would do it,...... so why not me ?!?

Does anyone have a problem with an intentional foul by "pushing" balls around the table and giving bih if it helps you ?? I don't see many folks do this.. only occasionally...
If that is what you decide gives you the best chance of winning, go for it. I lot of players get so caught up in trying to make balls that they overlook simple safeties. They may not be exciting, but they will win you games.

Just remember that the against better players, giving up BIH with a "tough" run out available isn't a very attractive option.

I've started playing in the local tournaments, and thought this was a good rule against slugging the rack. You have a choice of racking. If you make a 9-ball your own rack, it doesn't count in the bottom 2 pockets. If your opponent racks, then its fine.

Our BCA LO plays in the league with us...He's a stand up guy and he seems to put a lot back into the league. I could see it being a problem if the LO changes rules to his benefit or re-rates anyone that beats him...As long as he/she is a fair person then I see no problem with the LO playing in the league that they run. They probably became involved with running a league because they love pool...

As far as snapping the 9 in three racks in a row in the same pocket...well its either extremely lucky or its a doctored rack...If its the later of the two then its absolutely not acceptable from anyone but especially not from the LO! He should be setting the example...If it was a case of getting lucky and snapping the 9 three times in a row then cool and good for him...If he "gets lucky" a lot I'd start to wonder...

To update on our league status we are just over half way through our BCA 8-ball season and we're in a tight points race with the top 4 teams. We're in first with 1533 points, 2nd has 1510, 3rd has 1505 and 4th has 1479...I'm currently sitting in 6th for individual standings (couple of bad nights early on dropped me from 1st to 15th but im fighting my way back towards the top) ....I'm currently leading the league in break and runs/run outs. (Thats about my only bragging right this season as far as an individual but our team is doing well)

i have a question - and yes, yáll can tell me i'm stupid....

my Man just joined the new UPA in our area, as a substitute. he's now a regular - TUE/8ball & THU/9ball @ $10/night.

after his 1st two matches, where he "cleaned-house" - his next match was against the LO. (i think, to clock him & re-rate him, which did occur)

1) is it acceptable for the LO to participate in his own league?
2) the LO won the break & sank the 9....THREE breaks in a row! isn't this "rack mechanics"? is this allowed?

(my Man still beat him)

ok, that was 2 questions.

a lo playing in his own league has 1 positive and a few negatives in my opinion.

the positive is that he is there more involved at a closer level with his league members plus he gets a 1st hand account on how every one plays. hopefully catching any sandbaggers.

my apa lo plays on one of my teams with me. i know of 2 other teams he also plays on.now some people will say the lo...if he is a high handicap like ours " 7/8 " helps get his team to the playoffs.

in apa that is where it stops. lo's are not allowed to play in playoffs , tri cups or cities. the way i look at it is ...if our team is good enough with out him to move on through the playoffs , tri cups or cities our team was good enough to make playoffs regardless if he was on the team.

other leagues allow lo's to play on teams in qualifying tournaments and nationals.... i think that is wrong because it leaves the door open for a lo to pull moves like what happened at last years bcapl nationals.

i also used to play on my napa lo's team before i started my own team. i am not sure if napa allows lo's to play on teams at nationals or not. i need to check on that.

as far as rack mechanics go. i would not accuse any one of doing that based on one night. i had a 4 make 3 in a row one night with me racking.:( i have all ways preferred loser rack to prevent such problems. i doubt that the lo has racking down to a science like that. heck most pros cant do that.

I played solid and beat another 4, 3-0. My guess is that he is new to APA like I am and his handicap has not yet been adjusted.

This week, I might not win a game..lol. That is how play anymore...lol.

Won an even 8-ball (NAPA) race 4-1.

With the exception of one sloppy win, I've been playing pretty solid. My only loss was to a kid is still undefeated.

Won my 9-ball match 14-6 last night. It was ugly.

I finally get a "9 on the snap" patch, which after thinking about it; it should be called the "I just got 2 points and have to rerack" patch lol.

Sweet, Alyssa just emailed me saying I was going to win at least 1 of my 2 matches if not both of them tonight for league! I am rested and ready to rock and roll.

Cool!

We have a make up match tonight (due to the snow storm last week) so I might be playing twice tonight, as well. Let's see how it turns out...

Good luck guys. Don't forget to play defense! :D

:rotflmao1:

If I play the make up match, against who I think will be put up from the other team, defense will be a given. You've heard the phrase "give someone enough rope..."?

APA 8ball last night. Might be the best pool I have played all season. I missed 2 shots total in the match. From very poor play to good play in 3 days, sure will never understand this game, but stilll enjoy it.

Had APA masters last night. Twoforpool beat me up, 7-4. Went home and licked my wounds. We still have another 3 or 4 matches to play this season, I think, so I'll be looking for revenge!

Got singles regionals on Saturday. Yeehaw, giddy-up and all that.
