How does one get pro status?

It's been tried more than once. Problems seem to arise because of the power/control issues between the organizations and the players.

I agree with your post on all accounts though.

Maniac

No, it hasn't been tried, not correctly.

I can't believe all the advice about how to become a Pro Player, from a crowd of players that they themselves have never made it to the status....LMAO

Your comment isn't true for all thag posted.

I didn't tell him to "become a pro".

I gave advice on how to guage his speed "compared" to a pro.

A way to sorta.....see where you stand.....so to speak.

My advice works well for that.

How to be a pro?...... I have no comment on that but, it's not a hard question to answer.

But, how do you know if you play pro speed? Easy, get in the box with well known pros:thumbup:

Tell us how to "become" a pro?

I'd be willing to bet you could find at what par a Pro golfer needs to maintain to be considered a pro. And, I'd be willing to be you could find out what pin average you need to maintain to be considered to be a pro bowler. But the ONLY way to rate a Pro pool player....is by the player who misses the least, because that's the player that wins the most!!

Very good post Glenn.....

A good test for pro pool players would be a points system:

10 ball
Wooden rack
Break from box
9' table
Racked in this order:

.................1
.............2......3
..........O...10....O
......O....O......O....O

^^^^^^then

Break.....then

Get awarded bonus points for balls made on break....then
Get points for running out.....then

Play "x" number of games......then

Players that break well.......AND.......run out are your elite

People that just break well but don't run out well
Or
People that break bad but run out......neither one of this group will make the cut.

Does that sound a little familiar?

About as familiar as the old saying, America only has 1 real Professional pool players, the rest are Professional actors.

So, I see you remember that conversation. I do too and still agree with it.

It would be nice if all of that was a reality.

Maybe one day.

Sorry, but you're way off base, you have no clue, but that's ok, but go ahead and presum you do.

No Glenn, he is correct... Any "try" is by definition, an attempt. A "success" is a success.

So, there is really no such thing as a "unsuccessful try". A "try", is simply the effort.

Pedantic, I know... But there it is... :)

Upon further review and a bit more thought, all you have to do is beat Jesse Cardiff.

Thank you all for your post.
I know im not close to the pros.
There is a Pool hall not to far of a drive host alot of local tournments.
I will try out.
I will go to the dcc. Not that i plan to win but to see how far i can go.
My buddy that goes every year all ready fill out his entry fee.

I have always thought a pool pro would be some one whos main income is pool and wins big money tournments and possibly sponsored and gets invited to big pool events.

Please don't take this wrong. I'm not calling you out in any way but, just out of curiosity,
I would like to see a video of you playing the 10 ball ghost or whatever your strongest game is.

I understand and will not take it wrong if you don't. It would go a long ways in helping some of the more knowledgeable (not me, I'm not even close to.an instructor) people here on AZB to guage your speed and pretty much give you the exact info you searching for.

Fargo Rate may have an opinion....

(on what constitutes a pro-level player)

We don't, primarily because we don't want to assign special significance to any particular number.

In fact, we prefer ALL attempts to put players in bins just go away

PRO, B, 7, A, BB, OPEN, 5, ADVANCED, AA, C, D, B+, A-, 4, INTERMEDIATE...

Let it all just shrivel up and go away...

Mike,

Playing the ghost is very popular among pros and amateurs alike. It would be nice to have a fargo on the odds of someone beating or losing to the (for example) 10 ball ghost.

Is there a way to know the odds of say, DO or SVB beating the 10 ghost with the following format, based on their Fargo ratings?:

Race to 25
No pattern racking
designated racker with 1, 2 and 3 on corners vvvvvv
...............1
..........0.......0
.......0.....10.....0
...2.....0........0.....3
Magic rack
Break in box
No ball in hand
Scratch on break is loss
All balls foul
Call shot
10 cant go on break
10 cant go on early combo after break

Sorry if this question is to far off the charts but, I am curious.

Thanks for your time,

Jeff
