It doesn't take a genius to research what is standard in any industry and to engage an attorney familiar with the particular industry you're interested in getting involved with. If you cannot figure out how to protect both yourself and your clients then do not get involved and put anyone at risk. Period, no excuses.

I'm just sayin, all the Hard Rocks are owned by the Seminole Indians(except London and Vegas) and since this was being held at the new Hard Rock in AC(opened not long ago. Old Trump Taj.) Then maybe.....

Hmmm... Lawyer at $200 an hour, probably 20 hours minimum to do that kind of job. .... No sponsor yet. $43.92 in my pocket. Whatever will I do?

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but for pool it's not the sort of path most can/will take.

I'm reminded of the time the PBTA (men's pro tour) had a sponsorship from Camel. Somehow the tour ended up short $400,000 in the prize funds due to "other sponsors" who pulled out. Camel decided they didn't want to be involved any more and it cost them $800,000 when they were sued.

Oh, and somehow the players who were owed the $400k still didn't get paid.

Seminoles own the London Hard Rock. Vegas HR is now owned by Branson/Virgin with a new name/theme in the works.

And why didnt they sue plus try for criminal charges?

I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest here. If it's that one should not spend $4,000 before having a sponsor, well then I definitely agree with you. If you're suggesting that a wannabe promoter should not do his/her due diligence, well, with that I cannot agree.

We can, and should, only do what we're able to do, and deal with reputable partners, the rest is left to others and fate. This appears to be a case where what should have been done was not done. JMO

Suggestion to contact mgm grand in DC

Or

Maryland live casino...

They might be interested in a last minute deal to replace the sponsor and venue.

daydreaming about pool

what a fiasco. Its so unbelievable that an event with $100k added is cancelled when its this close.

This is like the five stages of grief only the pool tournament edition. My first reaction was denial and I assumed this was a bad joke. Then I was angry that this had happened. Then i'm reading facebook and i see people talking about trying to run this without as much money. The thought appealed to me, bargaining for something still to happen. Most of the rest of last night I was just kinda depressed..

This morning I woke up and accepted this was totally FUBAR and rebooked my flights to Philly to line up with SBE 2019 in march.

I feel bad for all the people who are out $. They are probably still in the Anger stage.

Well, i guess the silver lining to this cluster-f^*k is that VV is DONE as a promoter and hopefully no one will give her the time of day in future deals. Complete bulls^*t.

Promoting a major pool tournament is difficult.
Producing a major pool tournament is harder.
Directing a major pool tournament is stressful.
Competing in a major pool tournament is challenging.
An individual attempting to do all of the above is asking for trouble.

The tour players and whoever won the judgment which i assume was on their behalf and who they were representing, no?.
I'm not sure who the plaintiff was but the payment seems to have been to the PBTA Commissioner. After that, so far as I know, the players saw no money.
