For those of you not yet on Facebook Matchroom has announced next year's World Cup in June from sunny old Saudi Arabia.

Wow, I was toying with the idea of going if it was in England.

Anyway, hopefully this will serve our sport well.

With Matchroom at the helm, I don't think we need to worry about the kind of rampant mismanagement of the event that sucked the energy out of the World 9-ball Championships earlier this month in neighboring Qatar.

This is a mixed bag. Anyone who has followed what's going on in the world knows that many middle eastern countries are trying lure in visitors by hosting "world class" sporting events. Of course, it's being done to cover up horrible political issues in a large majority of instances. See the reaction of several of the best golfers in the world regarding recent tournament action in the region as proof of the problem.

Billiards, of course, could certainly use the boost in exposure and coverage, but at what price? Would have rather seen this elsewhere.
